Don't third gens have cabins made out of aluminum? That's what I read so don't need to worry about body rust, just the frame

If you own a 3rd gen and the cab gets compromised in an accident, the truck is most likely toast.

But the good news is you also most likely survive.

Nothing is perfect though, just some structures are better than others in a crash.

So it looks like Ziebart is out because it is a rubberized undercoating that can trap in moisture. THanks for all the other product recommendations. Comes down to Fluid Film or Krown. Considerations?

Maybe I'm odd, but I like the way Fluid Film smells

I would see what you can find locally and then price stuff out. Folks say Fluid film stinks, and ya it has an odd smell, it didn't last that long. Although, I have read about some one who parks in the garage under the bedroom, and his wife was not thrilled.

Any complaints with Krown? Some youtube videos show it makes a mess of the rubber on your car. Also they have to drill holes in the doors...what do you guys think?

As you can see from @boynoyce ’s post, the door and doorframe is a highly engineered part for strength, crash worthiness, and lightness (mpg).

Letting some schmoo-slinger go ape-shit drilling holes in your door to fill it full of said schmoo is an extremely bad idea. Where exactly can you drill a hole where you are not compromising the strength of the door assembly? I don’t know.

Get your chosen schmoo in there by other means, or just don’t bother.

Directly below the hole already drilled into the door skin to access your door lock mechanism. The 4 - 1/4" holes that are drilled into the doors on a 3rd gen are not compromising the strength of the assembly at all.

This idea must be foreign to someone that lives on the West Coast...

Tell yourself whatever you want. Toyota engineered and crash-tested the door with the exact number of holes it has from the factory. Maybe the new schmoo hole locations have now been heated by the drilling and it has changed the temper in the surrounding steel, which will cause it to fracture? I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure you are not going to find a Toyota Engineer to sign off on drilling holes in your door structure. There just isn’t all that much metal there to begin with.

No complaints as I have mentioned in this thread before. Its a good process, the place that did mine said I could have opted for no hole drilling. I thought it over a bunch, researched like you did, then just decided to have it done including the holes.

I plan on keeping up with the process every year, $160 is pretty reasonable in my opinion. As far as I am concerned, it makes my truck look better and should keep suspension components from rusting together. Down the road it should really increase my overall resale value.

Either treat your truck or let it rust. The choice is yours.

When you sell it be sure to tell the next buyer you had a bunch of holes drilled in the doors. I’m sure they will be stoked about that.
