    Hey guys

Me and my girlfriend are heading down from BC to Zion in a week to do some of the rock climbs and hikes in the Zion NP area. Currently we don't have accommodation planned in the area, and were hoping to camp in the backcountry. I know BC has a Backroads mapbook detailing a ton of areas to camp for free. Does anything exist like this for Utah? and if so where would we be able to pick one up?

I'm driving Utah with my wife right now and so far every planned camp site we had has been full. We've had to divert and go find something and it hasn't been difficult at all. There's stuff everywhere. Look up the BLM dispersed camping rules and regulations, then just find some road. Tons of great spots once you are here and look around.

That's the most awesome camping spot I've seen in a while.

Late to the party, wish I had seen this sooner.

These falls are about 18 minutes from my house! And thats only because the road is rough. Next time you're in the area, holler. (thats goes for anyone)

There is also an amazing camp spot right outside hurricane, its about a 15-20min drive off 9. its called Mesa Rd. you drive up that until there is a dead end. take a right onto a dirt road and then follow that to the very top. where on your right there are a few camp spots no one stays at. and they are epic.

Gooseberry Mesa's access roads are a mess right now. I would highly avoid going up that road for a few more days if anyone points you up that way.

Here is where we camped for Red Bull Rampage the last 2 years. Tucked just off the main road to Zion, but very quiet.

No one stays... hahah epic, since its always in use! I can almost see this spot from my back porch. I make this drive up to Smith Mesa almost weekly. Its so beautiful, even for farm land.

Were you here for Rampage this year?? The folks I work for ran the shuttle.

Next time, you're welcome to stay high and dry (and a hot shower, cuz lord knows y'all stunk real good after that event!) at our place. 15 minutes to Virgin.

Yep. Last 2 events. I was gonna hit you up, but we staked out a great group site like a week in advance, Probably had 15 people in our little tribe. That is where the rampage party pit always seems to end up. Really adds to the "experience". I may hit you up in a few months for a trip down there though!

They get hella slick when its muddy. If you know what you are doing, you are probably ok, but they do get pretty bad.

Every few years, this mud pit develops right by the main road, and I've seen it swallow a vehicle to the mirrors right when I first moved to UT 2.5 years ago.

Buzz me ahead of time, we're traveling a bit the next few months.

    You were lucky!
Its used by car campers who get the word about it from others. Locals use it too. So it stays pretty used.

Next time either of you are up on Smith mesa, theres s cool spot called the Bathtubs just a 1/4 mile from this spot.
As you make your way up the last road pitch, pass the petroglyphs, on the right is a turnout for 1 car, maybe 2. If you walk up there, theres these cool depressions bigger than bathtubs. Sadly, no rain in the summers to fill them, only once it turns cold! f

I was just up there too last weekend. Crybaby Hill dries out pretty quick, usually within a day/day 1/2. If you can 'read the road' you're good.

Report I saw was Monday or Tuesday I think. Had some yellow jeep wrecker service pulling out a 4runner.

Yeah, they do usually dry pretty quick I guess. Just figured I'd toss out a caution before someone found themselves up a creek.
