    What if:

Bob's leg was infected, Garreth took him, and they amputated his leg because otherwise he would die and turn.

Garreth did specify that Bob wasn't dead YET-But that he shouldn't worry too much about the yet part. This implies Garreth will keep him alive for the time being?

    In the books:

<I think the cannibals were keeping people alive and taking limbs from them to eat. Keeping them alive kept the 'meat' from going bad instead of needing to refrigerate. It's been a while since I read them. I don't think timing of amputating a limb is as crucial as they thought with Herchel, I think Bob will live, he'll just be a couple feet shorter:cookiemonster:>

Cook meat throughly to a resting temperature of 165*F should destroy harmful germs, bacteria....zombie viruses.

If it is bacterial than you are correct. What it actually seems most like is a Prion Disease (like mad-cow). And cooking will not render it safe if that is the case.

I thought everybody was infected anyways, so it didn't matter if they ate bad meat or got scratched. And getting bit only kills them faster (poor choice of words but whatever), so they are just keeping Bob alive for food

If anyone knows how to eat people, it's Terminus. We don't know how the infection works, they might.

Something like this if the infection adheres to this rule.

We don't know getting scratched won't kill someone. We have no idea of the effects of eating bad meat.

If you cook the meat thoroughly and that kills the virus, then by that logic the Termites could technically eat a dead zombie (is "dead zombie" an oxymoron?)

Not really, it's the same as cooking refrigerated meat vs. a week old dead animal in the woods.

Bacteria can be cooked out, rot cannot.
