They are brain dead, brain controls the heart, only the brain stem to the spinal cord has anything left. Primal functions are intact but the body is dead, the tissue is dead. That's why all zombies are skinny, even though they eat, they have no functions to digest the food, hence why they are always hunger and have no muscle mass.

They don't breath, that's why they can walk under water.

The word you are looking for is thermal, not infrared. Infrared refers to that spectrum of light that is not visible by the naked eye but visible under night vision.

I'd say you could see a zombie through an AN/PAS-13 series optic because you can distinguish other things that are not alive / producing their own heat source because they retain / emit thermal energy different than their surrounding objects.

When we take our thermals out to a range, we use reverse polarity targets. They display as "super cold", so if the optic is set to white hot, the target is dark black and is distinguishable from the "warmer" black (dirt) surrounding it. It's a way to use the optic without having to heat the targets.

I did, and I stand by my statements that there is no metabolic rate to a zombies digestion. If there was, they would be more then rotten tissue!

Yes....iron sights will always be. Others are prone to failure. Also you can co-witness with i/s and an optic if mounted right as a guide. Then drop the optic and use i/s alone.

Under the statements issued by Mxpatriot, since I have experienced this type of imagery on COD MW2, I stand corrected.

But using optics designed for spotting body heat, I do not believe zombies generate body heat.

    poll*

and movement will create heat, so I vote you can see a zombie in a thermal as well

also, they wont really be sitting around in the shade all day, rocks that have been sitting in the sun all day can be seen radiating heat in the night, letting thermal scopes see things that were recently introduced to the environment

I think zombies tend to avoid sunlight. Very few are seen out in the middle of the day unless food is near by.

Does movement of a dead person generate heat?
