Oh, come on, guys. Zombies are obviously a playful metaphor for bad guys in general. Just easier to say zombies than to repeatedly list in discussions the many threats (murderers, rapists, robbers, muggers, home invaders, rioters, etc) in this society. Further, like the fictional zombie's obsession for brains, a good number of bad guys also have an equally narrow-minded compulsion - to take from or harm others.

This article (about a hard to stop man chewing on another) is amusing only because it takes that metaphor to a slightly more realistic level.

    +1

People talk about needing a .308 to take out targets at long range.

Sorry. Shit hits the fan, your defensive needs are going to be identical to home defense needs.
You're going to need a small caliber for hunting food (the large game animals won't last more than a couple of weeks).
You're going to need a shotgun and handgun for camp defense.

Shit hitting the fan does not change the basic rules of firearms safety... know your target and what's behind it.
That pickup coming up the road 400 yards away MIGHT be someone intend on raiding your camp... but there is no need to shoot the driver at 400 yards, because it might also be a friend or family member using an "available" vehicle.

With the weird and unknown diseases out there and crazy experiments with chemical warfare. What makes you think zombies couldn't exactly exist. Some strange new drug cooked up in some meth lab or new pesticide on farmers crop this isn't so far fetched as it sounds.
