What is the plastic film in my door?

Does anybody know what the plastic film inside our doors is called, or have a part number?

    Here is a photo:
    film.jpg

My door leaks water into the cab when it rains, very clearly through the gaping hole in this film. This is the first time I've ever had the door trim off this truck. I was expecting a pinhole, or maybe a detached gap in the adhesive. But apparently someone cut out a huge hole in this barrier, and it is beyond repair.

I would like to buy a new door liner film from Toyota. But I can't for the life of me figure out what it's called, much less find a part number.

Update: the part number is 67831-04110, as is clearly shown in the original photo. OP is a moron.

Update 2: As suggested below (see page 2), to replace this seal without paying for the Toyota part, you can use plastic sheeting with butyl tape.

I believe it is either called the moisture barrier or the water barrier and it is meant for just the purposes which you are trying to prevent.

The dealer should have a diagram that you can take a look at and you can go from there as far as ordering it.

I've heard it called dust shield or vapor barrier.

It's a vapor/moisture barrier that protects the interior door panel from moisture damage.
Water gets into the door while the window is open, or from little gaps in the hinges, Window glad and rubber seals etc. Thus water drains out of drain holes located in the bottle of the door.

You can buy similar plastic from various automotive and/or building supply outlets. Just make sure you seal around the edges and openings in the plastic, as seen in the photo.

^this. And some butyl goop from auto zone to stick it on. It’s a vapor barrier to keep moisture out of the cab. Looks like someone did a shitty job installing speakers or otherwise working with the door wiring.

Im sure if Toyota does sell it, it’s probably three times as much as some plastic from HD.

Or you could take the opportunity to upgrade with sound deadening. :notsure:

Ask the dealer for a "door condom." They'll know exactly the part you need and probably give it to you free.

Thanks guys! I was hoping to be able to order something online, since I'm supposed to be on lockdown for at least several more weeks. But I guess I'll just need to make a trip to the dealership. Tired of my car smelling like an old shoe after it rains.

I've tried using dropcloth before, on other cars, and for me, it never works as well as a new OEM barrier. I get wrinkles or a big gap, and it still leaks. I'm sure a skilled person could cut it right, but I'm not that skilled person.

I have no idea why it's torn so much. The door speaker clearly looks original, and there's no dynomat behind that huge tear. Maybe somebody repaired the window motor at some point.

Clear vinyl shower curtain material also works. And chances are you can find some hanging around right now.

When I lived in Arizona it was a dust shield. Now that I'm in Alaska it's a moisture barrier ;-)

But this is a desert adventure vehicle, why would I ever need sound deadening?

    ...

Dammit, why didn't I order some sound deadening before I opened up this door!

    ...

I'm going to forever regret not sound deadening this door!

    ...

BAM! Go go gadget undiagnosed hoarding disorder:

    20200426_204058.jpg

It might still leak like a screen door, and smell like an old gym bag, but I'll be damned if this door won't be half a decibel quieter now!

It doesn't mean much. In my time working on old cars I've trashed that plastic plenty of times and not worried about it. No consequence. Though I would do my best to preserve it on a newer car, trusting that it's there for a reason.

Also, speaking of boneheaded questions, the part number is written directly on the stupid part and is visible in the original photo.

FYI, you can super sound deaden the door by also covering the inner door skin and replacing the plastic with sound deadener. First post here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/audio-visual-diy-thread.173147/

he went a bit overkill IMO, but you get the idea.
