This is the first time I have had to post. Usually I search through and find my answers, but I have been stumped by an issue I have been having the last 6 weeks or so.

Occasionally my Truck will not shift out of park when I start the vehicle (and yes, brake pedal is depressed, vehicle on). My issue is that it is intermittent, and not a consistent problem.

I know about the override right next to the shifter and use it when I experience the issue. When I research this problem, it is usually the result of a blown fuse. Today I went through and checked the continuity of all my fuses in the cab and under the hood. None of them were blown. I have also verified that all my brake lights, turn signals, marker lights, head lights, and fog lights work correctly.

I also took apart the center counsel to see if anything had gotten lodged in the shifter and found nothing. What is really stumping me is the fact that it is an intermittent issue. This is why I didn't think it was a fuse to begin with. All the other posts I have seen state it is a consistent issue until fixed.

Could it be that by brake light switch is slowly going out? I hit my brake about 40 times and the brake lights came on and off every time as they are supposed to. Could it be the piece next to the shifter that prevents you from shifting (not sure of name of this) that is slowly going out?

Can anyone point me in a direction or two? I really appreciate the help!

I think it's something to do with the switch at the brake pedal but I'll let someone else that knows the deal chime in.. Good luck!

So you think it is the Brake switch, under the drivers column, which senses when you depress the brake pedal, Correct! Just want to verify in case there is some other switch I am unaware of.

Thanks again for helping me out!

Thanks for all the help guys. Looks like it is a Toyota Only part, roughly $20. I'll let you know the results when I receive the part.
