First of all let this be my official hello and thank you to everyone, my name is Matt and I am new to this forum.

I just purchased a 2001 Taco I4 4wd Regular cab with a canopy. I purchased it for $4350 at 160k miles. I thought it was a good idea. Although I really wanted a V6 access cab. Should I sell this one if I find one of those or could I not sell this one for a nice 1st gen V6?

Mainly I wanted some opinions on my image of the truck, recommendations, and just an open forum for support.

I plan on getting a Snug-Top to replace the... umm something-ranger brand canopy, then I would like to put a basket on the top of that, add a brush guard, winch, projector headlights, and a 1.5-2.5" lift. There are aftermarkey eagle alloy rims, i think they look great but not sure of the quallity, I know they are Les Schwab...

Any comments or opinions? Ill post pics when I'm off of work.

    Please comment !

Keep it. It's hard to find regular cabs in 4wd and they look awesome with a lift and welcome to the forum.

    Thank you!

I am now looking at new seats to replace the bench seat, any ideas?

There is also a rattle when the engine is cold coming from the engine compartment.... ugh.

Time to search the forums for "rattles".

I saw a video on youtube for Scion XB seat swap but it seemed a little complicated with the grinding and welding but I'm sure totally worth the trouble. 4Runner seats 98-02 swaps directly though I don't know if your floorboard mounting is different since you have a bench.

There can be many things to rattle under hood. With the engine cold, you should start just try to wiggle parts in the engine compartment including your suspension/steering parts.

I love my reg cab 4x4. It off-roads well with the short wheelbase.

There are times when the extra cab would have been useful, though.

Seems like a pretty good price, IMO.

That's kinda what I'll be doing, I can't afford a diagnostic fee from the Taco dealership. Thanks!

I think my project this weekend will be an LED dash upgrade, cheap cost/look ratio!

Yep, that was on of the first thing that got replaced when I first got the truck. I didn't really like the amber. Only thing I had trouble with was taking off the dash trim/bezel as it was stuck to the vent.

Do you have a thread on the installation, bulb count or size? I think I could do this will all the interior lights for less then $30! What an idea!

I followed the dash removal on another site. I think it was TTORA. The bulbs are 194 (4 qty) for the cluster itself. Make sure you get good leds. I suggest superbrightleds.com as I have bought from them before and others as well and theirs was the brightest and good quality. As for the map/interior lights, the don't work well with leds for 1st gens. They flicker. Something about voltage.

Such a great help! I will post pics! I am worried that the green color I want (easier on the eyes than blue for long trips) wont go well with the white background on the cluster.

With the white cluster the color doesn't really show through daytime though at night, all you see is the light coming through (cluster face is dark at night)

first gen 4 bangers are bullet proof! the v6 is good for me cause i wrench on it constantly trying to get each and every pony out of her. 4 banger i think is more reliable.

That is good and all, till I heard the piston slap at 20 degrees outside. I hate it when things arn't perfect. and the clearcoat is coming off the canopy. Looking for a new one.

Thinking about a 3" lift kit for this summer... I don't do much off roading but I do hunt every year and I love wheelin in the SNOW in the winter. Would like to wheel on the beach too (undercarrage wash right after I'm done). Can anyone suggest how many inches, body lift or not, what tires to run if it's a daily driver... I will answer anyones questions to give a better idea of what I am doing daily.
