Changed the oil in the dark on my 1995 v6 235xxx that I just bought. I thought five quarts drained out so I poured 5 quarts in. I checked the dip stick and it is about 3 inches above the Full marker. When it starts there is a ridiculous amount of exhaust, something is very clearly wrong. I tried to drain it again but only about 2 quarts will drain. how can i force the oil out?

Let it drain. It'll come out eventually. Almost sounds like something's blocking the drain hole

Do not run engine with oil level out of spec. You are going to get air bubbles in oil if the crank is dipping into oil. 3 inches is alot and this can ruin your engine. Like others have said, you are doing something wrong. There are resources on this site like the factory service manual and writeups to help you. But for god's sake, stop running engine until you have it figured out.

Get under the truck and look at the drian hole with a flashlight... what do you see?

Is something blocking the hole from the inside??

Is your drained oil red in color? please say no.

Is the truck on level ground while doing this??

I agree with Fightnfire..... Anywho after getting the oil/transmission fluid to the right levels I started her up and it seemed to be running fine. After 2 or 3 minutes the exhaust started to get smokey again. Do I fear the worst, or is this going to need to run a little bit to work itself out?

Well, really not too much you can do at this point. Once you are absolutely positive you have the fluid levels correct, I would take a close look at the oil condition on the dip stick. If it looks aerated at all, I personally would do a complete drain and refill. Bad indications would be oil pressure light or high temp. Another less obvious indication may be a lowering of gas mileage. Any of these things and it may be worth consulting with a professional mechanic familiar with Toyotas.

Either drained the transmission or the engine can be badly sludged. Take a look through the fill hole and see what you find, hopefully nothing.
