Hey all, I have a question for ya:

I replaced the bushings on my 2002 Tacoma as per: http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old/index.php?article=166

Now an odd thing has occurred: my clutch spring now either snaps the pedal down hard or up hard - but there is no smoothness to it. As such, my truck is basically unsafe to drive. I did assume that I put the spring in upside down but there is no way to insert it other than the way shown in the link above - and that is how I did it.

Do you think that 1) in the span of an hour my spring magically became too tight or 2) that I need to leave the spring in for a day or so to recondition it back to where it was?

    Either way, this is annoying.

    Too few to list.
Yep, linear spring was the way to go. Less than $5 fix.

Be sure to buy the Tacoma brake return spring from the dealer ($2.50)

Do not buy the one Rucas specifies in the first post of that thread. It's not good... he ended up replacing it not too long after.

I had read that post a while ago when I was thinking of doing the torsion spring however my clutch has the big ass spring.

This mod will circumvent the need for it? (n00b question)

Yes, pull that POS out and never look back. I used a #70 linear spring from ace hardware. Works great.

Interesting. I have the spring from when I first read the post. I'll use it until I get the Toyota one Madjik recommends.

Or just go without any spring at all. Won't hurt, as long as the pedal returns fully.

Check out post #71 of that thread.

The spring Rucas, the OP, used pretty much fell off after getting so loose.

I just realized that is 10 digits. I wonder who I'd get if I dialed it.

Thank you, sir. You are awesome!

Looks familiar. Nice work. I bent my hooks together so it doesn't come off though.

JMO: Should have gone with the beefier spring.

Hey guys, how did you get the original spring out?

I tried prying on it with quite a few screwdrivers and I just couldn't get the darn thing to budge very much.

Towel and screw driver method. You take your screw driver and pry it against one of the hinge side of the spring, you take a towel and cover up the spring and pry the spring off one of the two hinges. Be careful, it gives a kick. That's what the towel is for though so it doesn't come flying.

I couldn't get it with a screwdriver. I pushed so hard I thought my screwdriver might snap, and it looked like it was close, but it wouldn't come out. Any other methods?
