Looking at buying a truck today and need some quick opinions. How bad does this frame look? I told him to send me any bad rust spots on the frame and that is what he sent me. The guy said the frame passed inspection and wasn't coated because it was in Arizona and has been for the last 4 or 5 years but before that was in Indiana. He said it was just surface rust and the frame was was solid.

Forget it, the guy just said it was undercoated back in 2010. I called Toyota with the VIN and they confirmed that it was.

I don't know man. That frame spray toyota does doesn't seem to be a huge deterrent to the frame rust issue.

Do you have any pics of the frame/rear shackle area? Where the rear of the frame connects to the leaf?

I have a thread on here called new rust discovery. My truck was toyota coated and failed me. You should at least scrape and wire brush what you can before winter. Rattle can some rust inhibitor and top coat in my opinion. GL

My truck was coated in Oct 2010 and just failed inspection. The frame spray seems to be a temporary fix.

What I meant was I'm good in a way that if it does fail Toyota should replace the frame since it is within the 15 years. The frame looks good other than that small spot. Underbody is pretty solid and it runs awesome. Also came with service records all the way back to around 20k miles. Only problem is the original owner was a smoker so there are a few burn marks and the cruise control won't set.

I would get it to a dealer and have them look at it. The frame spray was a joke.

Mine was done back in 2010 and was all flaked off in a year or so.

1 year tops depending on your location that rear shackle will fold in. Since it was undercoated you should be covered under warranty?

If not wire brush/ patch it and Oil the frame.. Got an 04 that has spend time in WV not 1 spot of rust..

It's my understanding that the frames were treated from the inside out, because that's where the corrosion started. Many dealerships coated the exterior frame with typical black undercoating to make it look pretty.

I paid $500 extra for undercoating when I bought my 95.5 new. That truck is gone to recycling and parts. Don't think I saw any undercoating inside boxed part of frame. I used a sawsall to cut into pieces to scrap. Don't trust toyotas udercoating or you will be sorry. If I were you op I would not sit back on frame rust. Don't trust toyota to make things right. My 02

http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/333126-new-rust-discovery.html This truck was undercoated by toyota!!!!
