    Hey guys,

I have a 2004 4x4 (144k miles) and need to replace the fuel tank protector shield that covers my gas tank as it is rusted out and 1 side is falling off leaving the gas tank exposed.

I took it to the dealer in my area yesterday and was given a quote of $486 for a new protector shield cover. Also was told there is no aftermarket part available. I am a bit annoyed to have to pay so much for this cover. Does anyone know of any other options available? I've looked all over online but can't find much of anything. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Have you checked the junk yards?
Budbuilt.com has a lot of skidplates that offer much more protection than the stock sheetmetal does. I don't know if they have a fuel tank skid plate, but they could probably make you one.
Just a thought & good luck!

A quick Google search showed toyotapartsoverstock.com has it for $161.

    I think lowrangeoffroad.com offers a replacement.

I just bought a 96 and the shield is missing...I'm wondering if this is needed if this is a daily driver that won't see any rock climbing or heavy duty 4x4?

You're probably fine but anything can kick up on the highway.

Is the fuel tank protector shield holding up the gas tank for a 2006 Range Rover Sport? Mine has rusted through and am wondering...
