I just did a 5000 miles service on my 4x4 last night and along with changing the oil and filter, rotating the tires I thought I would lube the drive line with Mobile 1 just for grins. I have a air powered grease gun and it took at least 20 shots on each zerk before the old grease even started to come out:eek: It only took 10-12 before it turned red from the new grease. I guess I should have done this as soon as I got home with the truck the first day.:(

Same here, you are not alone and not exaggerating when you say 15+pumps. I went through a whole tube of grease at my 5k. I bet they put in small amount at factory and the rest is supposed to be done at dealer for prep or at the first 5K service. O well I am glad I did it.

Any hints on getting grease into the front drive shaft zerks ? The back ones are easy but the front ones are hard to get to. I can't seem to get the grease gun couple to snap on tight to the zerk and the grease goes out around the zerk instead of into the zerk. Thanks for any ideas.

I got the Flexible hose. The problem is the fitting on the end that goes on the zerk seems to be just a little to big and doesn't snap on tight enough. I just thought someone might have had the same problem and figured a way around it. BTW I used to take it to a quick lube place. They said I didn't have and zerks. I said yes I do. They said oh yeh we'll grease em. Well the front ones squirted water the first time I greased it. Scary

I got to check this out. "You can adjust the tip to be tight or loose on the zerks" The one I looked at today didn't adjust. I'll check the guys at work tomorrow on this.

This is the first I've heard of zerk's on the front drive shaft of the 2nd generation trucks...where are they exactly?

Be careful if the grease gun tip is adjusted too tight. When pulling it off the zerks never do it at an angle...allways pull straight back. The zerk fittings aren't that strong and can snap in half. Some of the zerk's are pressed in...can't just screw in a new one!

I pump grease in the zerk fitting probably every 3k miles. It must be pretty nice to have one of those electric grease guns!
