Vibration when slowing down...

I originally thought it was the brakes, now I have a feeling it could be the tranny. 2k miles on my 2011 PreRunner. When I come up to a light and I'm either coasting or lightly braking, I can feel a vibration. I think it's coinciding with when the auto transmission is downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear.

Any input?

Seems to do it mostly when it's cold (when first starting in the morning until it's good and warm), but lately it's been doing it more and more anytime.

is the vibs in the pedal..if they are then it is rotors

 

Pedal and steering wheel. And if I had a passenger they'd probably be able to feel it too.

 

I had the same thing, got the rear brake drums replaced as the vibe was in the seat. Took care of most of it but the main culprit appears to be the torque converter. You'll still get the downshift vibe, which sucks on a new vehicle!

 

So everything's functioning as intended, this is just a terrible by-product? The only way to alleviate the problem (while it's happening), is to compress the brake pedal much harder (thus shifting into 1st sooner). Again, it could be the brakes or it could be the tranny, but it seems to always happen when slowing/downshifting from 2nd to 1st.

 

I have the exact same problem on my 07. Was hoping the ecu flash with the pedal recall would take care of it but it didnt. I thought I saw somewhere that there was a tsb for the 09+.

 

So upon doing some research, it sounds like the "Driveline Vibration" TSB from a couple years back, but I can't find a TSB for newer years.

Anyone know if the current years have the same problem?

 

I have a 2011 Prerunner 2.7 double cab auto that also has a vibration when slowng and does not appear to be the brakes. I had the same problem with a 2010 5 lug extended cab I traded for this one. The dealership service director has rode with me and felt the vibration. He says it's torque converter and called Toyota and they dispatched service techs to the dealer. They flushed transmission fluid twice but that was the extent of repair before saying those famous words "vehicle is operating as designed". Sure wouild like to solve this one too but many Tacoma's are doing this and their owners are just living with it.

Interesting. I can feel this too, though mostly from the steering wheel. the vibration is also much more intense as I am using the brakes (I thought it was due to my brakes as I can't recall this problem when I first bought the truck (3+ years ago)..

 

You should be under warranty if it's the drums. If it does it just coasting w/o the brake it might be U joints. (also under warranty) Good luck. At 120,000 mi my ass end EXPLODED. Sheared the pinion shaft in two!

 

There is a tsb for driveline vibration between 15 - 25 mph, I think. Mine had the vibration from 35 all the way down to 20. Nothing to do with the brakes, Happened when slowing down (coasting or with brakes) or just general cruising around in that 20 - 35 mph zone I had a vibration that felt almost like the transmission was slipping/searching for gears. I was sure is was the transmission that was going bad. I bought the part described (im out of warranty) in the tsb $50 online, around $100 at the dealer. Installed it an the vibration is gone. I was skeptical when I was swapping it out because the new part looks EXACTLY the same as the old (no stamped numbers on either). Worth a $50 shot for any of you guys out of warranty. And something to bring up to your dealer for you in warranty guys.

my 09 tacoma is doing this very same thing. The dealer says they cant find the problem. What part did you replace? I am under warranty so I would like to bring it to their attention.

 

I thought my vibe (between 22-27) was a lift issue. I have 5100s at 1.75.

Maybe not.

Hopefully they come out with a TSB for the 2011...

 

I have the same vibration , the TSB is for 2008, I have a 2011, shouldn't they have fixed the problem by now ?

My 2012 auto is doing the same thing during first mile when its cold then it goes away. 4000miles on it. Been doing it from the start.

 

Hi fellow tacoholics,

I have the same exact problem and reading the TSB posted it sound like an identical case for my 08 access cab. It does have a 3" OME lift with 33s and 137k KMs on it with front wheel bearings and hubs that have only 25k KMs on them. I do have ECP and I cant wait to march into my local dealership with this new found info but I just happened to notice something... On the very first page of the TSB "Market: USA"

I live in Canada and as far as I know my Taco is a Canadian (wooo maple leaf love), but it was manufactured in Cali, according to the sticker on the rear door. My question is would this TSB still apply in my situation. Or is there a similar TSB for Canada I don't know about? All help is appreciated.

Lets face it, a lot of the time it is. Look at the sigs of guys complaining, crappy lifts done in their neighbors garage, oversized mud tires, lug centric rims, etc. Then they wonder about vibes.

 

I have 2010 access cab 50,000 miles I got a vibration or say out of round feel in ass end of truck when I accelerate .. when I decelerate I feel a shudder around 30 mph all the way down to 20mph . feel it in my seat tires have been road force balanced twice
