HID installation concerns

Hi everyone. i have an 05 PreRunner and thinking put HID on it. so what are the good brands out there? and am i gonna blind ppl with HIDs? Please help me here guys. Thanks and have a nice day!

if you put them in your stock housing, yes you will. even if you aim them down you will still blind the shit out of everyone.

 

so how do i fix this. I want HIDs on my truck, but hate the fact they'll blind ppl on traffic and post a driving hazard.....

 

The opinions on HIDs in stock housings is about a 50/50 split amongst the members. I run 35W 6000k Heads and Fogs from DDMTuning, and granted it is not as sharp or focused as a projector, but the stock housings with HIDs suit me just fine. I can honestly say I have not been "flashed" any more with the HIDs than when I was running Sylvania Silverstar Ultra Halogens. I plan on doing the BHLM along with a retro, but in the meantime the stockers with HIDs suit me just fine. Good luck with your search.

 

I have HIDs from DDMtuning.com as well and I get flashed about the same amount as when I had Silver Stars in. Mine are 35w 6000K headlights, and 35w 3000K fogs.
- also they are in the stock housings. if you really want to do it right you will need to retrofit projector housings into your headlamp.

 

I have the 55w kit from ddmtuning. I have NEVER been flashed. I did angle them down quite a bit.

 

If I were to flash everyone that blinds me from their fuckin HIDs then the brights switch would be worn out.

OP: get a projector HID set up. Its nice and bright and wont blind the piss out of everyone.

Thanks for posting. Join The Retrofit Source group buy on this forum and do it the right way. As stated above, just because oncoming traffic does not flash you doesn't mean you are not blinding people.

 

I run 5000K 35 watt HID lights on my stock housing and it is just fine after re-aiming the lights at a local auto shop. Before I got them re-aimed, I was getting flashed all the time. Now, ZERO!

 

Again, just because you aren't getting flashed doesn't mean you aren't blinding oncoming traffic.

 

DDM are good and cheap...probably the only product I don't think I minded coming from some village or town in China.

Don't ask too many questions about HIDs here, its a very sour topic. Its ok for hillbillys with amber lit antenna masts, amber lit brow liners, and amber lit running boards and homemade diamond plate mudflaps to line up 2 or more pairs of driving lamps on a bull bar on some early 90's Ford or GM duelly, not even bothering to align the beams, and drive around on the road with them all on blinding the hell out of everyone with a well-overloaded bed full of crap...and its ok for regular cars to drive around everywhere with high beams on all the time but its not ok to put a quality HID kit in your existing headlamp assembly so you can see the road better.
