Yeah, I was told that today, and I guess it makes sense. Apparently CarFax guarantees the accuracy of their reports tho according to my brothers boss who used to own a couple used car lots. So I need to get in touch with them

Didn't read every entry so before the "re-post" nazi(s) click their heels I will start by saying sorry if it's already been said.

FIRST: CARFAX is NOT worth the paper it's printed on. The information reported is only on a voluntary basis. If the truck had been in a wreck anf the company doing the repair work does not want to submit the info or decides to sign on to CARFAX program/system late, it is what it is which could lead to a false sense of security.

SECOND: Dealerships (and most places that sell anything) are a FOR PROFIT business. That means they are the professional and you are not...you are their prey that helps the make a profit. While keeping you happy is good for business, if you're happy when you walk out yet still paid 20% over cost and they abided by the letter of the law they will be happy and sleep well.

Always protect yourself and be a very well informed buyer. Even then you may take a screwing but at least you didn't hand them the lube.

Sorry you're in this spot and good luck, let us know how this works out.

Have you called CARFAX? Bet their lawyers have their asses covered.

I rarely buy used, but if the dealer took the vehicle in trade, he can give you the person's info. In some states it is required. (EDIT: If you ask!!)

that works way better, what i did, up until now, is list the car on ebay, look at the free car history, then remove the listing

Plus one on Autocheck. I just used it instead of carfax when looking for a used 4runner for my daughter. For 40 bucks you get unlimited vin checks for a month and they have an app for I Phone that lets you just scan the vin bar code and up comes the history. I agree that Carfax and Autocheck aren't perfect, but we walked away from a couple nice looking 4runners due to bad histories.
