attempting my own satoshi

That is one of my M1 sets... got beat up though...
I can tell you from the box design and the way the mesh is cut that i sold that set to someone well over 9 months ago...

 

it doesn't look bad in person, but upon further inspection it does look like it had been on someones truck before. I think i see a wing from a bug...

Homer how do you recommend this is secured?? once the frame is complete?

 

Ya, I wasn't crazy about the idea of zip-ties.
I work with them every day, and heat, UV, and ozone deteriorate them... the black ones last a long time, but they don't last forever. Within 10 years they still get brittle.

But I also don't trust epoxying a screw to the ABS.

I used stainless steel exhaust type "zip ties".

I used the advice and cut some pieces out of the old one. I then used the plastic weld the best i could.






this is my first attempt at bondo as well so here we go.

That's what mine looked like.

Bondo, sand, bondo, sand, primer, spot putty, sand, bondo, sand, primer, spot putty, sand, bondo, sand, primer, spot putty, sand, primer, spot putty, sand primer, scuff, paint.

 

With 60-80 grit, sure.

Not with the 400 wet/dry he probably bought

 

Agreed, Definitely not easy to sand all that with 400 grit! You'd knock it right off with a 60 grit though

 

I have been using 80 grit

 

I may switch to a cheese grater though

Question for you Homer? If doing the 3/4" recessed grill, does that negate the need to fill? Is the 3/4" depth basically taking it all the way down to where those cutouts end?

Really want to attempt this and I have to give thanks to all of you who write these up. Learning from these what to do (and not to do) is great.

I'm thinking that if the center is cut out and the edges cut all the way down to the bottom of those cutouts, then we don't have to fill at all, just clean up the edges and attach the mesh, right?
