Hola from VB. I've decided to upgrade to a newer truck and I'm parting with my beloved 98' 4Runner. My new rig is going to be a black 2012 Taco crew cab 4WD TRD Sport short bed. While the truck is actually being held for me right now for pick up, I'm still on the fence about a long bed.

I've decided mostly on the sport because I'm not planning on making this into a rig any time soon and it's cheaper considering I'll be dropping the suspension and wheels that come on it. For the next 5 years this is mostly going to be for utilitarian purposes like projects around the house, camping and beach runs. While it will get a 3" lift and some other upgrades, I'm not in need of the locker controls and other upgrades the off-road package has. When it's time to go all out I'll upgrade all that.. assuming gas is still under $10/gal lol

I'm purchasing this vehicle for a few reasons, but hauling things with room for the kids is a big reason. So that gets the long bed into play. However, being a daily driver, grocery getter and such, I'm leaning toward the short bed for turning reasons. With a few supports in the bed, I can still manage a 4'x8' sheet of plywood from what I hear. I know this is a lengthy, beaten-to-death topic so I won't ask for opinions :) Anyway... new pictures to come.

My 4runner is for sale in the buy/sell section if interested.

Nice 4runner. I still love those. My brother-in-law just sold his with over 200,000 miles on it, just the past weekend. Bought the Lexus GX which is basically the Lexus version of the new 4runner.

I went with the short bed. I'm parking and making u-turns more than buying lumber. However, I'm going to get the extender soon so I can get some wood to fix my fence with... he truck's first task :)

I ordered the factory roof racks and go rhino step bars today. I got great deals on both, just over $500, thanks to this forum. I'm looking into 3" options this weekend.
