ProComp coil with 5100?

I know it's done with the OME and Eibach coils and have the shocks set at '0'. The Procomp coils I have give me 3" of lift, slightly less since the are broken in and settled. Am I right thinking it will work fine, set on '0'?

Apparently pro comp's ride is not so great?
I concur, the ride sucks schweddy balls! I bought the truck with the lift on it, It is Procomp struts and rear shocks. Just looking for a slightly better ride. Besides, the rear shocks are stiffer than a prom night dick when it's cold out and the bushing are gone. Fuck it. Bought.

If they're the Pro Comp 700# coils, I wouldn't put them on 5100's. That's a pretty damn stiff coil and I don't think the 5100's will dampen them properly. Most people won't even run the OME 886 coils on 5100's and they're only 650# coils. For reference, Eibachs are around 620#, OME 883, 884 and 885 are 580# and stock is around 540#/in.

If it is a 700 lb spring, you would think I would have more than 3" of lift....Right? Or I guess it would all depend on the ratio of spring rate to length.

Spring rate and lift aren't directly related. If you had a 700# spring and a 600# spring, both the same length, then the 700# spring would make the vehicle sit higher because they wouldn't sag as much under the vehicle's weight. I'm not sure how long the Pro Comp coils are relative to the different OME or Eibach coils.

That I understand. So if I were to install the Procomp coil on the 5100's, I wouldn't expect catastrophic failure of the strut would I? (In the TW opinion) It would just ride stiff as usual, and honestly, I don't think it would ride harder if it was lifted with 4x4 wooden blocks the way it sits now.

If the coil is too strong for the shock to dampen, first you could wear the shock out very quickly, it could ride like crap because the shock is essentially just bouncing along for the ride and isn't properly setup to dampen the coil and the last issue is a constant hard top out which could damage the shock. I know even with the OME 886 coils it's recommended to go with OME shocks and not the 5100's so I can't see pairing an even stronger coil with the 5100's being a good idea. You're right though, I would doubt the ride would improve at all since it's the coil causing the problem, not the shock. If you get 5100's, you could just go back to stock coils and kick the 5100's up to 2.5.

On another note, you might want to wait and let someone chime in to make sure that the Pro Comp coils are even compatible with the 5100's. They should be but you never know, they might not set into the coil seat correctly.

I am very much NOT opposed to getting rid of the Procomp coil. I just need to stay within the budget. Might just bite the bullet and order a set of 885's.

It will work, but like Pugga has said, it may very well wear out the strut prematurely. I am going to give it a shot, and if it is as bad as the ride I have now, I will just swap in OME coils.
