After 5 weeks since order, Salesguy gave me a VIN last friday. Just entered into carfax and came back with 3 records. Then I entered into National Insurance Crime Bureau's VinCheck.org, came back with nothing. Then went back to Carfax and it says there are now 6 records.
Where did 3 more records come from in the space of 4 minutes? I'm hesitant to waste 40 bucks only to find out the expected - that the truck is being moved amongst dealers on its way to me.
Does 6 records seem abnormally high or is Carfax just making that up to entice me into paying for the report?

I'd guess it's trying to get you to buy the report. My one owner, never in an accident, 3 yr old truck supposedly has 11 records. Can't imagine what they'd be, but I'm definitely not interested in spending $40 to find out.

Some regular maintenance activities get reported on Carfax reports, it may not all be bad.

I'd guess it's just what you expect, the transfers between dealers.

A few of those are the "built" and "shipped" and "entered the US" posts.
Another one might be the lien on it.
If you PM me the vin and your email, I could get you a carfax.
