Google fail - found answer based on "tacoma oil pan" on google images and a youtube video. Seems like that's part of the pan that I'm talking about, so yeah - washer time.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WDxBE1r7uk

So, I've changed the oil on all of my vehicles more often than not - many years, many oil changes. Today I decided I'd do it since I found Mobil 1 0w20 cheap.

Cat litter container under truck - check. Funnel in top of cat litter container - check. Loosen bolt, intentions to loosen with fingers until free and remove it entirely - a little oil on fingers, no big deal.

Freaking plug fell in to funnel PERFECTLY, threads down to funnel drain, flange around bolt made a perfect seal. Yeah, messy as shit. After all was said and done I noticed my crush washer (was going to reuse, only had 5kmi on it) was gone.

Definitely not on the bolt, but there is a lip on the bottom of the pan about the size of the washer. I've never seen a washer burnt to the bottom of the pan, but I can't remember if this was there last time (I know I used new washer). Getting a ride to the dealer now for my stupid part  but is there supposed to be that lip, or should i give it a whack with a flat head screw driver to see if it's my missing washer? Just want to avoid that if the lip is built in to the bottom of the pan at least on 4cyl 2ndgens.

    image_zps4f5d6a3e_49d7885dd8bcc3b3401d4ca4774ab23b8d1f86a2.jpg

Container is all crushed and shit from me spazzing - there wasn't enough clearance to get the funnel out of the jug and just hold that up to the oil stream, so i had to sqiurm and find a way to yank it out, spilling more oil. More would have come out though if I just let her drain - like 6 qts minus the funnel's capacity of two cups.

Yeah, it'll be cleaned up properly and I'll go plant some trees somewhere :)

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.

Yea, sometimes the washer will stick to the pan. Knock that sumbitch off and replace with a new washer.

Yea, that sucks. You need to get an oil catch basin... a Funnel already probably has too small of an opening, it might have overflowed even if the bolt hadn't plugged it up. The oil comes out fast.

You just drain the oil directly into a bag of kitty litter?

I'm guessing you just toss it after... cause that's where motor oil goes.
    and why 0w20?

Especially at the end. He's driving a truck, but has a pan full of dirty oil on his passenger floorboard.:smack:

OP, that's no lip on your oil pan, it's the crush washer. You should replace it every oil change but I've gone a few changes without replacement and not had a problem.

If you've bought a replacement washer, just tap the existing washer (lip) with a flathead screwdriver. Use your hand, not a hammer, and it'll come right off.

x2, don't you know that's what the drainage inlets are for? :stirthepot:

BTW, anyone who thinks that's a serious comment needs to smack themselves upside the head... seriously, do it now.

I second the sticky, if for no other reason than to make it easier to see the dude in the video smack himself in the face.

Hah apparently I missed a lot in that video, I just used it to see what the oil pan looked like. Anyway, all good.

I suspect that is an empty container.
When I had my Duramax, I attached a hose to the Fumoto and drained it directly into an old Amsoil or Mobil-1 container.
Fumoto was a requirement since the truck held 10 quarts... had to be able to shut the flow off halfway through the drain!

There's no way that cat litter container would hold the clay and 5 quarts of oil.

5w20 or 0w20 is spec for 2nd Gen.

OP, you need a Fumoto drain valve.
