To steal maybe $15 in gas...Anyone had this happen before?
    it's about a 3/8" hole

What did you end up doing? Buy a whole new tank or did you find some some other solution. I know they have gas tank repair kits but for obvious reasons i'm sketchy on those. I just dont have the cash to toss around on new gas tanks and what not.

Wow only an idiot would still into a gas tank, don't know of a solution for you but good luck finding one. Maybe try the local salvage yard, search craigslist for used tanks

That's crappy. They know we have plastic tanks I guess. So easy to penetrate. I might try to fix it temporarily, then I would replace the tank.

I'd probably just drill it bigger and tap it for a bolt and screw that thing in and call it good. It's worth a try before buying a new tank

We had this issue last winter with people going to our C-Train station parking lot and drilling through a couple of trucks(none Toyota) gas tanks. There wasn't much that police could have done except look at the video from the parking lot. Manufacturers don't do very much to when it comes to protecting gas tanks.
