I'm going to be buying a 2014 next September, unless 2015 is the new debut of the new Gen Tacoma and then I'll pick up the 2015.

I have a list of modifications to perform on a truck I don't own yet...
(thanks in large part to this forum)

I currently drive my wife's 2005 Corolla and it's rock solid.
Last fall we bought her a lightly used (by gma and gpa) 2007 Limited 4runner and next year (after I sell my flhtk in the spring) i'm allowed to buy whatever vehicle I want. I chose a Tacoma.

I have a set of wheels in the basement waiting to go onto the vehicle the day I bring it home....

Do I have a problem? I'm buying stuff for a truck I don't yet own...

Any advice for a soon to be Tacoma owner?

I'm thinking double cab, sport or offroad (really hoping they come out with a trail edition Tacoma for the next Gen), 4x4, auto, short bed to start.

Talking to the dealership today when I bought my '14 I mentioned that I imagine this will be the last year for this generation of tacomas and he said yes, there should be a new one for '15.
I have no regrets as I imagine the next generation will trade some of it's physical ruggedness and ride height for better fuel economy.

All you have right now is a set of wheels? That's not a problem. You should see the small pile of stuff I have in my garage ready to go on a truck that hasn't even arrived at the dealership yet. You can sell the wheels and go cold turkey but I wouldn't recommend it, I suggest going the moderate modding route.

Nobody knows whether the redesign will be 2015 or 2020.

Buy a 2014 and make it yours.

I would take the 2007 limited, I love the look of the 18" wheels and projector headlights. If it has the v8 it is the ideal truck. A small lift and you can fit the perfect size 33 for a toyota. 265/70/18.

Remember what they tell you in those meetings - know you don't have to face the problem alone. :D

The wheels in your basement probably fit the 4Runner. May want to try them out. :D

First off I wanted to say thank you for making Step 1 so easy for me. It's nice to feel accepted... haha

    to answer a few questions...

The wheels I have waiting are a set of 5 2013 OEM 4runner Trail edition wheels. As you guys know these will also fit the wife's 4runner (in case I end up with a 2015 and I actually like the OEM wheels (or it has a different lug pattern than the 2nd gens)

I guess looking back I've always done this sort of thing... modify my vehicles before I get them, although admittedly, they're usually motorcycles. Speaking of which, anyone want to buy my 2011 FLHTK so I can get my Tacoma now? $19,000 and it's all yours (great bike just no space for a car seat on the back). jk I know this isn't the for sale section and don't want to get in trouble with the moderators...

This will be my first pickup truck build and I'm really looking forward to it.

In general, I like functional mods that appear as they could or should have come from the factory so I doubt I do anything too drastic with the truck. I do like lights, so consider that a fair warning....

I'll be sure to start a build thread once I get the truck, heck maybe I should just start it now.... just kidding, that's step 2 in the 12 step.

Don't buy anything for something you do not own. Put the money in the bank and draw interest on it and after you get the truck you can start buying things you want. Also if you are going to wait that long buy the newest model as the MPG will be better because of new government mandates.
