CSI winch receiver (W580) and shackle combo is what I keep in the hitch. The D-ring and lock pin are very beefy, so no worries for you there. I use a locking hitch pin setup, for sure, though. I'd recommend you do the same if you keep an attachment in your hitch.

You may want to check and make sure that running a hitch without anything on it isn't illegal where you live. Since that they are going to stick out someone could walk into them, hit them with their vehicle etc. Also you can cause more damage if you are rear ended.

    enough to go over stuff

I got rear ended with my hitch in and it destroyed his car and my truck was fine. I have kept a hitch on ever since. Plus I see paint on my hitch once and a while from people who get to close in parking lots.

I've never hit mine and I keep it in all Winter. In the Summer I normally keep the tow hitch on, and I have smacked my shin a time or two. Not the best pics, my Mil Spec Otter Box gets in the way, but here's a couple of shots of the one I bought from Harbor Freight. Comes in handy the few times a year I play the good guy and pull out somebody that's slid off the road and gotten stuck. FWIW

You got any pics of it on your truck. I googled it and found it on Amazon and a few other ones pop up on the side of related products. Like smittybilt, rugged ridge, and warn.

This is the reason i keep my trailer hitch in all the time. If i know that i might need my shackle, I switch them out.

Nope, not at the moment. Still at work but I'll try to snap some pics later tonight. I'm pleased with it, though. I did add a few strips of velcro (the fuzzy part) on the top and bottom faces of the insert for a tighter, quieter fit. Worked like a charm.

I also have the CSI shackle receiver. I actually have two of them and have used them with zero issues. keep one with my ARB snatch strap and one in the receiver.

Great bang for the buck, Made in China though. I put some electrical tape around it so there is no slop while its in the receiver and the red powder coat faded on the D-ring.

Trailer ball has saved my truck so many times. I don't ever pull anything but it'll never cone off as long as I drive it.
