Hello there TW members! glad to be part of the forums. anything i post will be related to my dads 2007 Toyota Tacoma.

well the other day on a trip to Vegas the oil lamp and CEL came on. every time he would accelerate the oil lamp would flicker. thinking the car was low on oil he put half a qt but was only gone for a bit. there was no rough idle/shaking or strange engine noises coming out of the truck. took it to get checked out for the CEL and both Pepboys and the stealership said its P0012, P0022. any info on what to do first? thinking about checking out the OCV? any idea where it is located or anything? im mechanically capable of DIY just not familiar with these toyota motors haha

the truck has 181,3XX miles and its a 2007 V6.

    any help appreciated

    It's all related.

The oil light is due to low oil pressure.
Your codes are camshaft position codes, and the VV-Ti is driven by oil pressure.

You've got a failing pump or blocked passages.

blocked passages? where exactly would i begin to look?

for the failing pump, i can just remove the OPS and check the pressure correct?

Could be a bad OPS, but with the camshaft codes both being present, it points to an actual problem.
    But I'd definitely check pressure.

Next step would be to pull the valve covers and eyeball for hot spots and sludge.

I agree with Rich. I don't think this is going to be very pretty when opened up.

Has the oil been changed as scheduled?
