first time lifting a truck, so ive read a lot!! so this is what I have gathered from searching. 3 inch bilstein lift with the AAL, get the uca's and I shouldn't have a problem running 285 70 17 with stock rims. I may need to remove the mudflaps and possibly trim some inner fender to correct rubbing issues. I DO NOT wanna chop my cab mounts. is this the correct setup?? opinions and thoughts from people with experience are appreciated!!

and what is the difference in these two lifts? and which is the better deal?

You'll need wheel spacers to run 285s, otherwise the tire will rub on the UCA as the stock wheels aren't backspaced enough.

    Edit:
You may have to trim the inner fender too...just getta pair of tin snips and cut away the plastic...no one will see it.

Do you happen to know if I buy rims with the same set-up/s, what the min off-set would need to be and tire size for some general off-roading. Nothing extreme.

Also which kit is better and why? I have only lifted two other vehicles, Jeeps and will be lifting my sons Taco.

Not trying th thread jack but interested in same set-up.

    Thanks for your expert insight.

If you stick with a 16" wheel, you'd want a 0 offset with 4.5" Backspacing to clear 285s.

Both of those lifts the OP listed up top are great lifts.

interesting...I really don't wanna chop the cab mounts....so if I go with a 16 inch rim with the 0 offset I should be fine? or will I need wheel spacers here too and still possibly need to trim or cab chop?? I think if I need to cab chop im just gonna avoid lifting...offroading will be very minimal if I do lift

from what I understand, you'll need to do the cab mount chop in order to run 285's regardless of backspacing and/or wheel spacers. but I could be wrong.

If you are going to wheel it, a CMC will definitely help, as well as flattening the pinch weld and some other metal massaging. I've been running 285 KM2's for a while now on FJ Anthracites( 4.5" BS), without doing anything but removing the small mud flap/ air dam in the front of the front wheel well. So if you are going to wheel it, either clearance some things or let the tire do it for you. If you aren't wheeling it you'll most likely be perfectly fine.

I believe 265/70/17 is the biggest you can run without trimming plastics and doing the cab mount chop.

yeah, I should probably clarify. Day to day street driving on highways and surface streets will probably be fine with 285's. Where you'd run into a problem is lets say you're turning from one street onto another and there's deep dips on either part of the turn, whichever wheel gets stuffed into the wheel well on the turn will rub with 285's.

May be true for some, but not all. I have yet to rub anything, not saying that it can't happen but in the time I've been running 285's with 2.5" of lift it hasn't happened yet.

even at full wheel lock? damn...I can't argue with experience. It's definitely possible they could work. Maybe I'm thinking of largest tire size without lift...

To the OP, if you're not doing any wheeling, I say go for it...sounds like the likelihood of rubbing with 285's and 2.5" of lift is minimal enough that you should be fine. If not, sell 'em and go to 265's or 275's. Sometimes, in life, you just gotta take risks.
