Hey everybody. I have a 2005 DC 4x4 Tacoma. I put an aal and Bilstein shocks on my truck about 35,000 miles ago. My first rear shock blew out at about 5000 miles and my second blew out about 34000 miles. I was just planning on replacing the shocks but then decided to check out my other options. The aal says that it lifts the rear 1.5 inches and the Bilsteins say that they are compatible with up to 1.5 inches. Is there any other reason for the shocks to blow out other than over extension? On to my second problem.. I noticed that my aal on the drivers side is broken and when I looked closer i noticed that the factory leaf about the aal was also broken. So it looks like at this point I need a whole new leaf pack. What do you all recommend. BTW I have a 2.5 inch lift on the front..

They should have a warranty on them if you haven't beaten the crap out of them. They should just swap you straight across for new shocks.

Should I just call them? If I remember right I ordered them from DS Motorsports. What is the max lift I can do with the 5100s? I'm going to have to do a new leaf pack and I'm thinking of doing the Toytec Boss that will do 2" of rear lift. I need to make sure I don't blow the shocks out again

Call and talk to Sonny or Micah and ask about warranty and the max height of the model u have and what u want to do.

There's other 5100 options with differing lengths, and also 5125's that may work. Alteration of ur bumpstops will more than likely be needed, but again contact Sonny or Micah.

Ok so I talked with the guys down at Downsouth Motorsports and they recommended buying new Toyota leaf springs and doing the Icon 3 leaf aal… So I call the dealership and they tell me the leafs will be $1300!! I told them that was ridiculous and I wouldn't pay that. So now I'm in the same situation. I need a total of 1.5-2 inches of lift in the back and I need a new solution.. I found these ones (http://www.generalspringkc.com/Leaf_Springs_Toyota_Tacoma_2005_2011_s/1933.htm) for about $400 a pair. Do you guys think they would do the job.. I could also use any new leaf pack that will give me the desired lift if you all know of any! Thanks

I went through about 3 different AAL setups including the Icons and finally got the Dakar springs .

I was I the same situation as you and I ended up going with wheelers hd leafs. They gave me 1.5-2" of lift and ride firm but nice. I have a cap on my truck all the time. I compared the general springs but they didn't come with u bolts and some say you need to shim the spring bushings. The wheelers kit had everything and is made by alcan. I'm happy so far. I also installed 5100's when I did the leaf swap

x2 on the OME set up. I went through 2 sets of stock springs in the first 100k mi then bought the OME front and rear 2.5" shock and spring setup. Was withing $200 of the stock rear springs for the whole set. 130k mi later they are holding up great and have barely sagged at all.

Didn't read the whole thread so this is probably a re-post but an entire OME set up with Dakar leafs is $1400. Tell the stealership to shove one and buy a top notch kit.
