I'm still trying to understand this...I've done hours of searching and reading and still can't fully understand what I am looking at.

Here is what I understand so far:

E-Locker trucks have 8" R&P (Basically TRD ORs)

All other trucks have 8.4" R&P - Actual size measures 8" but it's stronger so it's listed as 8.4

    Questions:

Since the 8.4" is really 8" in diameter, does this mean the tooth count is the same? In that case, doesn't this mean the gearing is IDENTICAL between the two?

If it's the same gearing between the two does this mean the front end of E-Locker trucks can have a 8.4" R&P swapped in (assuming same gearing) and work just fine? Is it confirmed the front end of a E-Locker truck has an actual 8" diff and not just an 8.4"?

    Thanks!

I read that whole thread and it didn't answer either of my two questions.

Through some more searching found some more information. It seems that all trucks TRD or not have the same front end if they are 4x4 - so the basic answer is, we have no choice but ARB for the front diff, huh?

I'm aware of that but I don't want to bother with an air supply.

Front diffs are the same, the only difference is the 4 cyl's have 4.10 gears (41 teeth) and the 6 cyl's have 3.73 gears (37 teeth).

The ring and pinions are the same size (I think) but the base SR5 / Sport axles housing is a little larger (8.4" vs 8"), probably due to the e-locker in the O/R. You have more options than an ARB air locker in the front and rear. Look up lunchbox or lockrite.

Basically, yes. I want an Aussie locker type of locker for the front of my Taco.
