K&N CAI?

I've been searching threads on CAI and cat backs because I'm planning to put a supercharger on in the spring. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this:

I like the looks of the TRD better, but Auto anything has 15% off right now, so $240 shipped is a no brainier as far as cost...

 

Go with a snorkel instead, that's what I plan on doing (Ariflow).

 

Yeah, I know. I personally just don't like the looks. My truck is only lifted a couple of inches. Stock bumpers, no winch or light bars etc... I think, to me, it would look silly on a basically stock looking truck.

Lots of good info on that thread I remember reading it awhile back.

 

I've been using the Series 63 for about a year now and notice a great boost in ego. No real fuel economy gain, but it does sound great when you romp it, and it makes me feel like it's accelerating faster, but the difference is negligible.

I do like it because when towing, I can notice better hill response, so it must be doing a little something better.

That said, does anyone know of a custom engine cover or filler when using the K&N CAI?

 

Engine cover should still work. I just left mine off.

 

K&N intake is a good upgrade but don't expect tremendous gain.

 

Engine cover does still work, it just has a big gap. I figured some enterprising gearhead would have the equipment and knowhow to make either a filler or a sweet looking replacement. Who knows, could be a new tuner market...

You think they could label mine with a V-12?

I've never had much interest in changing the intake or anything like that...well not seriously .

However, I just got back from a road trip where I had one tank of gas that averaged 13 mpg . My best tank averaged 17 mpg. My avg. for the overall trip was 15.6.

I typically get between 18-19 going back and forth to work. Before I lifted and put on bigger tires, I got 20.5 consistently with my daily commute. I went up 2" in height and went from 265/65 to a 265/70 tire. I don't think the height difference of the tires effects the gas mileage quite as much as the weight.

I've also read bad things about the oil used on the K&N filter getting sucked into the engine, but I'd have to imaging that is from people using too much oil .

That's a lot of rambling to get to this point. I know that no one will be able to answer this question, but I'm wondering what the ROI would be if I changed from the stock intake to the K&N 63 series.

I'm not concerned about maximizing horsepower or anything like that. My main concerns are keeping the engine running long term and fuel economy.

 

No return on "investment". I lost about 1 MPG when I installed mine.

 

I like the noise.
