Does anyone have a good source to buy an ambient air sensor for a 2015 Tacoma. This is a frequent question I realize but I haven't heard of anyone actually installing one aftermarket. I really miss not having it. Please help !

Coincidence. I just traded in a Yaris, which had one, for the 4x4 Tacoma, which does not.

Rather than pay for a $1000 package to include what they give away with economy cars...I'll just tough it out. But I'd love to find an outdoor temperature sensor which works reasonably well and deals with road slop okay...

Ya know... I always discounted those things because they all mounted just up under the front bumper, next to the hot pavement. I'd like one mounted up around, say, 4" above the right headlight so you'd have double duty good for a side marker. Cain't see that damn fender! :D

I hear ya guys. It's one of those things you don't miss till you don't have it. I would really like to install aftermarket. I liked a compass to that told you what direction your going. Just quirky I guess....

Compass I get with my GPS.

As well as true speed. I used to use it with cruise control...set the speed 2 mph over the posted. Cops don't bother you.

It's important, because today's cars often have WILDLY inaccurate speedometers. Five mph off at 70 is common. And they're always FAST - I think it's because government regulations stipulate that the speedometer must never read slow. So they give themselves wiggle room when engineering the speedo.

Or maybe they stipulate a fast reading...who knows?

Anyway...GPS is a simple solution to compass and speed, and paid for long ago.

Where is the outside air temp gauge on my new 2015 Tacoma? My 2010 had it in ceiling. So nice.

Is this what you are looking for? Auto dim rearview mirror with Temp and Compass. Gentex makes the mirror Toyota offers in some packages but they seem to only offer the compass and not outside temp. I guess they expect you to go through Entune to get some regional temperature. With the mirror, you also get HOMELINK for garage door/gate remotes (basically standard in all the cars I've had since '99).

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...mp-sensor-install-2014-off-road-pictures.html

This was the first mod I did on my 2014, really missed temp/compass that was in my old 2005 and Homelink for my garage doors. Install was fairly simple- lots of tips in that thread, the harness plug was already there, I just had to route the temp sensor. Gentex supplies the OEM mirrors for so many auto manufacturers and its a good unit.

You can also disable the autodim when in reverse, specify that you want this when you order the mirror. Bob, (the supplier noted in the threads) was great to deal with and the kit he supplies has everything you need to get it done in a short amount of time.

    Hope this helps you.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Manufactures are allowed 3 mph either direction. Or rather, supreme court says that YOU are authorized mph either direction for speedo error and 2 mph for variance in Radar sets. That is why good cops would never write a ticket for 5 over because an informed person could win it in court and waste everyone's time.

if you have AC there is an outside air temp you can pull with scan-gauge

all AC has outside air temp sensor

Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
I have a '14 DCSB Sport 4x4, and was in the same boat as you. My FJ had it and my Honda Civic has it, so I was determined to put it in my Taco. I went on eBay and purchased a used Gentex 177 mirror that has auto dim, temp and a compass. Don't care about the auto dim feature, but wanted the temp real bad. The mirror didn't come from a Tacoma, not even sure it came from a Toyota, but as long as it had the temp probe I figured it was an easy hookup.

Anyways, I followed some of the posts on TW and found out that this was an easy install, which took about 1 hour. I had to remove the overhead console and figure out which wires were ground and 12v ignition. Pretty easy with a voltmeter. Then, just spliced into those with the wires from the Gentex mirror. The temp sensor was ran in the headliner, through the A pillar, through the firewall to the front of the truck just above the other sensor that was already there.

When I was done, I turned the truck on and I was happy. The best part is that the mirror only costs $45 shipped to my door and that included the mirror, temp sensor, mirror wire harness (very short so I had to lengthen it), compass instructions and wiring diagram. It has separate buttons for temp and compass, and it's either one on the display, it doesn't display both at the same time. No biggie, I just want temp.

$45, and an hours time and that's all it took. Anyone could do this and it's not too expensive and looks factory. The Gentex 177 should fit any vehicle. Look on eBay for one, don't pay $100's if you don't need to. If you want to buy new, then go for it, but a nice used one would work just fine, and mine looks new. There's nothing mechanical on these to break, so generally a good used one is fine.

    Just got a 2015 TRD O/R on Friday, coming from a 2007 non-TRD SR5.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed and surprised that they did away with these features. They aren't a big deal, but seems like most vehicles have outside air temp displays now. Considering back when I bought my 2007 a compass and temp reading were standard with a TRD O/R, I'm disappointed that they took that way with a more advanced model.

Are you certain of this? I assume you're not talking about air intake. If so, can I access this outside air temp with Ultragauge?
