Looking into some alarms and was curious if anyone had experience with these on their Tacoma....

I'm debating between a few Viper alarms. Mainly the VSS 5000 and the 5906. Maybe the 5706.

I've read some mixed reviews on the VSS and the iPhone app. Curious if anyone has this set up with an iPhone 6 and/or iOS8 or just had any input on any of the models I'm interested in.

After this I really would like a 2 way alarm...56A9C00B-AE6E-407D-B6FF-6A7B3C4B3B4B_zps_b3399e9fa0633b63d55e90ff1a0d006872f32ccc.jpg. Didn't find out until morning. Wouldn't mind being able to have the remote control the windows, but not a must.

Yeah, I know they're all the same company(and roughly the same price) just curious if people had experience with the different models and could give an opinion on them.

I just had a Clifford Matrix 2way alarm installed. $300 OTD at the best shop in town. Took them a couple hours. It's quite nice. The remote doesn't look as nice as the Viper or Python remotes, but the alarm works great.

5100's and 885's, AAL, fog light mod, map light mod, viper 5706, OR tow hook, inverter anytime mod, Firestone air bags, devil horns, hood scoop riged light bar, 32 inch bumper light bar,
I really like my 5706, the remote looks better than the Clifford imho which is why I went with it.

The only thing that pisses me off is if I leave the headlights in the on position, say at night, then remote start the headlights come on instead of staying off, if the timer times out, the lights stay on draining my battery.

Six years ago I had a Clifford alarm system installed in my Mustang. All in all it's been reliable. I've been told that it's weakness is the small gauge wire that runs between the alarm and the antenna. The installer that I talked to told me that they replace a lot of those cables which seem to deteriorate over time.

Had the smartstart module installed 2 weeks ago and love it. the Viper 5704 remote start/alarm had installed over 3 years ago without problem.
i often travel from the jobsite and just today, 15 mins before i returned to work to leave for the day, started it via my iphone (also use ipad) and drove home in a toasty truck without having to wait in sub 30 temps.
i was a little reluctant after reading older reviews, but as my installer mentioned, the bugs with the app have been fixed and it now works without issue.

Do people really pay any attention to alarms any more? I live in the sticks so I've never "needed" one but I had them in vehicles when I was in my 20's. Back then I had stereos typically worth more than the vehicles they were in. But what's it going to do besides let you know somebody just screwed with your vehicle? It certainly wouldn't have stopped something like what happened. Of course it could have let you know it happened and bummed you out a few hours earlier.

They were trying to knock out the window I would guess. It would let me know so I can address it(especially with shit weather) rather than having a smashed out window for a few hours with my shit in the truck. That's why I want a 2 way. More so I can be alerted.

Pretty bad dent and the rear window will need replacement as well.

I have the 5706, I'm pleased with it. Though the shop that installed it used speaker wire and wire nuts. It let me know when a guy in the parking lot at UTI clipped my bumper with his side mirror.

I figured out a solution to this problem. You will have to do some wiring, or have a shop do it for you, but see my post http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/252032-how-install-viper-5704-alarm-remote-start-13.html#post9429738 for details. Holler with questions.

OP, I installed the Viper 5806v. It's a 2 way alarm. Range says up to a mile, but I find that unless you're in a field, a city block is about the max. Works well for my purposes. It has the option of adding the smartstart module, but I did not install it.

Like I said, I'm looking into the smart start, but the reviews on the app aren't great with iOS8 it appears.
