Is this a good choice for a lift kit?

    Went with Toytec :
    Front
    885 front coils
    Leveling spacers
    Diff Drop

    Rear
    Dakar Leaf packs
    Toytec Boss shocks

    265/70/17 BFG A/T KO

Did not need UCAs....but had to remove the little mudflaps that are in front of the front tires because they rubbed. This is my 2nd truck with this setup, only differences on my '05 access cab had 883s and Bilstein 5100s on the rear.

I like this set up because it is a moderate lift and we don't need a rope ladder to climb up in it....

Don't need the diff drop either. Completely useless on a second gen Tacoma. Can cause more harm than good

Can you elaborate a little more? I ordered the diff drop but would prefer to not install it and return it if it's not worth the trouble. I will not be exceeding 3.0" of lift. I didn't want to cause premature CV wear on my new truck.

    ALSO,
I've been getting mixed feedback on the use of 5100s with the 2.5" ToyTec/Eibach coils PLUS the 1/2" ToyTec top-plate spacers (totaling 3.0").

I've been warned 5100s shouldn't be used with 3.0" of lift, that they max out at about 2.75" and will be overstroked. I've been advised to ditch the 1/2" top plate spacers.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Kevin at ToyTec reassured my that there's no issue with running the 5100's with the 2.5" coil & 1/2" top plate spacer, that they install that set-up all the time.

Still waiting to hear back on the necessity of the diff drop with that set-up.

If I could find the posts with the pics on here that showed the bad things with the diff drop I would post it. But putting them on our 2nd gens doesn't really help with any difference of angles on the cv's. Sometimes adding the diff drop puts it in harms way when wheeling. People have actually had bad damage from having it on there.

Getting the lift put on today with the stock shocks...Yes, it's going to suck for awhile, but I want to wait for the new bilsteins to come out.

With the stock UCAs and no diff drop?

Can't wait to see pics/measurements/alignment data

Got to the shop and they said they'd need the truck for longer then I intended. Ended up rescheduling and purchasing the bilstein 5100s for all 4's from the same website. Been reading threads all day and figured I better do it right the first time. Thanks!

Sounds like we have the same set up. You have the toytec kit/bilstein 5100s right?

Sorry I think I misunderstood. Thought you meant you were doing only 5100s instead of ToyTec kit.

So they did say it was alright to put the 1/2 spacer on the bilsteins?

Yes. Kevin at ToyTec confirmed they run this setup often. Talking it out made sense and I should have thought about it first, but the top-plate spacer goes between the strut assembly and the upper strut mount, therefore its not adding any length to the strut assembly, just moving the assembly down 1/2". The coils provide 2.5" of lift through their length and stiffness, so that's all the 5100 actually sees.

    My lift will consist of...

    Front: 2.5" 521600 ToyTec/Eibach Coil, 1/2" top-plate spacer, C477 Bilstein 5100 set to 0.0"
Rear: 2.0" ToyTec/Deaver AAL, OEM TRD Bilstein HD shocks

Jury is still out on diff drop, maybe a gametime decision.

Can anyone confirm the real world measurements of front end lift they got with this setup (2.5" coil + 1/2" top plate spacer)?

It's going on a DCSB, 4x4, A/T, so I know its one of the heavier weight configurations of the Tacomas.

    Indecision wins again.

I'm thinking of leaving out the top-plate spacer. Not only will this simplify the install significantly, I think it'll be better for the alignment.

Since I really want to avoid aftermarket UCA's, I think I'm just going to install the 521600 coil with the 5100's set at 0.0". Hopefully this way I'm still within reach of decent caster numbers to maintain a straight tracking ride. Still curious to see what the rake will be with this set-up (ToyTec/Deaver ' 2.0" ' AAL in the rear).

How much front lift did you get from the 885 coils and spacers (also what type spacers?).

You said you got a decent alignment, do you know the caster numbers you achieved?

Everyone has me worried now that after I put this lift on my truck will be floating from lane to lane all over the highway and the driveline vibrations are going to rattle the bumpers off.
