Sorry, just saw this thread. I was actually the one that responded to your email. But just to give a little more info, we typically supply the axle with the kit since we order them from Currie to our specifications. However, if you choose to use a different axle, your on your own for the housing brackets, 3rd members, etc.

We have sold thousands of SAS kits for the older trucks and 4Runners (86-95) and were the originators of such kits. Since, we have developed kits for the 95-04 Tacomas, and applied the same 3-link design to the newer Tacomas and FJ Cruisers.

To date, we have swapped 4 FJ Cruisers plus sold 3 kits, one of which was installed on the Tacoma in Canada by National 4WD. We got the opportunity last year to see that truck in person after it was done, and it turned out beautifully!

But, just so you know, these set-ups aren't cheap. You're looking at around $10k!

Thanks for the information. Is that 10k including the new axle, if it is would it be possible to get a used axle?

you can get a dana 44 out of a wagoneer (i think?) and get some leave springs and do the swap far about half the cost of the all pro kit

true it wouldnt be as capable but u can still get some good flex out of leaf springs, a dana 44 is only slightly stronger than a toyota axle (stock) and it a damn near perfect match for the tacoma rear ( as in near the same width, same bolt pattern, and its driver side drop, and you could pick one for under 200$

Sarah, Thanks for posting. You have answered a few questions I have had.

Yes. The rear axle may stay factory. The SAS only affects the front of the truck and you can't use a rear axle in the front because of the location of the front diff. The front diff is on the drivers side of the truck, not centered in the middle like a rear axle.

I am glad to hear the All-Pro kit uses a currie axle. They have made for themselves a sterling reputation for quality custom axles.

The axle itself is about half the cost, but it includes the complete third member. Here is a link to our kit for the 95-04 Tacomas, which is very similar:

It would be a 'Dana' axle, same as came in most every domestic truck for 40 or so years, not just a 'Jeep' axle. And the simple answer to who would want one is "those who value their money." Even completely stock the D44 is stronger then the IFS you have currently. The Waggy axles came with flat top knuckles which save machining costs for the steering arms. There is plenty of aftermarket support to beef it up as well. Even if you forked out for a narrowed Dana 60 you could build a stronger axle for the cost of the Currie Toyota one. The only reason to go with the axle pictured is for those who want to keep it 'pure' Toyota (although only a very small percentage is actually made by Toyota, most is 3rd party). A good leaf spring design can work quite well for 95% of the people who want a solid axle and can be done for only a few grand. Yes links do have more potential, however, the cost/capability scale is exponentially higher unless you have the means to build yourself.
