Saw several of these for the second generation, but nothing for the first generation Tacoma, so decided I would give it a try. I basically removed the lower console plastic tray, then made a lock box that fits inside of it. Wasn't too hard to do since I had the plastic insert to use a a template. Final product turned out pretty nice. Let me know what you think or if you have any questions.

Made from steel plate 1/16" thick. Not very thick, but very strong when welded together in a box. Then I just covered with sticky back felt from a local craft store.

Nice job! The finished assembly looks clean. I'm in a similar position, and have limited options.

When I searched for console lock boxes, I only found them available for 2nd Gen Tacos. As if 1st Gen drivers don't carry!

Keep me posted if you decide to make more.

My only suggestion would be to make the top of the box out of thicker metal. Looks like you could pry/bend the door open with a screwdriver?

Thanks. I actually looked into making the top out of thicker metal, and was worried about the same thing you mentioned. Once its all together it is actually quite strong. I'm not going to say it can't be pried open with the right tool, but its strong enough to withstand a typical screwdriver. Any determined thief will get in, but not your typical smash and grab. Thanks again.

Sent you a PM on these. I'd love to buy one if you have more of them. It would cost me more to make one than to just buy one. Let me know if you have any that you would sell.
