    I have the hose-clamp tailgate lock :-) best $3.14 I've ever spent
So any vehicle with nearly 200k miles is a gamble, but is this a risk worth taking?

One owner, "Carfax" certified about $8k sticker.

I'm really thinking about buying but I don't know much about older 4Runners... Is the 2003 a quality build year?

Sorry for the delayed response wishbone, I was working out of town over the weekend.

It's a V8, I drove by and looked at it, it's got new tires but "needs work to pass inspection" i.e. before the dealership will pass it. The work is minor (new brake pads, turn rotors, and some small stuff like tailight/wipers/air filter).

That should be a pretty low expense, I would check to make sure the timing belt has been done as well (should have been done at ~100K).
