Hey guys I live in upstate NY and I'm ready to pull the trigger on a 2014 AC 4x4 and I was wondering about undercoating. They asked if I was interested and I'm not sure if its needed? What do you guys think and whats your experiences with the northeast salt. They charge $450

I would do it if it was my truck, or plan on using something like Fluid film on the frame each year. I have an 05 that generally looks great underneath except for the frame which shows plenty of surface rust. I hope that it wont rot out like some have experienced but there are some stories of folks having frames replaced on 2nd Gens. I know in Rochester there is a Krown dealer open now. Krown is a similar oil like treatment but it costs about 120 and needs to be done each year.

Do a search for "05+ Tacoma frame rust" and make your own conclusion whether you deem it necessary.
I have an 08 and get my frame sprayed twice a year with Krown and my frame still has me a bit concerned in some areas.

I have not checked yet, but according to the Fluid Film site it is being carried in many local AutoZone stores.
    http://www.fluid-film.com/shop/
You can pop in your zip code and it will give you a list of dealers.
I am probably gonna try using a wagner sprayer but if you have a compressor I suppose any sprayer would work.

A while back they were offering free samples of Fluid Film. I got my sample and it seems like a great product. Here is the thread. I think if you search that thread a rep from Fluid film was in there and they offer a discount if you are ordering directly from them.

Edit: Found the discount code from Bob at Kellsport products

My last Tacoma rusted. It was an 06. I loved the truck and don't want my 2013 to die prematurely so I loaded up the protection.

Undercoated by Toyota (probably doesn't work)
Rust prevention module by Toyota (probably doesn't work)
Fluid Film applied by myself in a few places
clear tape http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BZO05C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 applied anywhere the paint gets rubbed/scratched (like under the bed rail caps)

Overkill - yeah. If the 800 or 900 bucks helps prevent truck cancer it was well worth it.

How bad does this product draw dust when underside is sprayed with it? I do some gravel road driving. I am familiar with the product but am just a little hesitant to undercoat with it. I know it's a great product.

I've used Krown before on other vehicles as well as Ziebart. I am trying to decide what I should use it on my 2013. Winter is coming quick.

My Taco is a 2008 and the second place it went was OilGuard. The first place was to get some truck accessories.

    http://www.oilgard.com/

Please watch the video on their page.

I have a brand new Corolla in the driveway I will be taking this week. I take my vehicles every fall. My 2000 Accord I just traded was oiled every year and the body was still mint except for some door dings. I won't even buy a used vehicle if it wasn't sprayed by OilGuard or Krown.

How it it applied, when my truck get OilGuarded, they drill holes in the doors, sills and other locations to get the oil in every corner of the body. The oil is applied with a 3' wand and comes out in a thick mist. They snap plastic plugs in the holes to keep dirt and water out.

FF will get dirt covered it never drys it has no solvents so it will get covered with dirt. I just did mine pressured off the dirt the washer did not take last years FF off the frame once cleaned was black and the water beaded up like it had been waxed. FF has to be applied with a rattle can or a high pressure paint gun. I use a Wagner electric paint gun about $70 at the big box. I would suggest a tractor dealer for FF I just bought a gallon for $32.67 from the tractor dealer that stuff has been used on farm equpt. for years. The small rusty spots were there the day I bought the truck have not changed a bit been through 3 years of Maine winters

Sounds like great surface protection, but what about inside your doors, door sills, hood, inside the fenders? When I go to Oilguard, they put their wand in every cavity they can get to. They put it in all the holes in the frame and from each end where accessible.

Watch the video. It's less about the product, more about how it's applied.
