Harmful towing?

    I'm looking at a 6 cylinder,double cab,short bed, off-road package with the towing package. If I tow my Scout on a Featherlite trailer with a total weight of about 5500# once a year from Houston to Ouray,Colorado will I shorten the engine/transmission lifetime that much?

    You should be just fine. I tow a couple snowmobiles all winter with my Taco and at 52K miles it has zero problems. I doubt a once a year trip will do much damage

    You would be under your tow capacity so you would be fine!

    If you are buying a new truck, observe the break-in procedure in the owner's manual (i.e. no towing for the first 1000 mi). Otherwise you are good.

    Change the rear diff oil before 3 yr/ 30k.

    Any photos of your Scout? One of these days I'd love to pick up a later Scout II with the 345 and a 4-speed. I see a lot of them out there that they swapped Chevy engines into, though, and that makes me cringe.
