So I replaced the windshield washer reservoir and there is an elbow joint that seems to leak. It isn't in any diagrams and I can't locate it in any photos. If y'all need an image of it I'll gladly provide one.

Also, is there some kind of shield that is supposed to fit over the tank? It seems a little exposed.

Picture would definitely help here. No real shield for it, it's not exactly what you'd call a "critical" part :p

Agreed on no shield, my wife's 96 didn't have one either.

Not sure of the exact part without a picture, but the washer fluid tank is one entire piece. It is also VERY common that the tank will crack especially in the hot weather states like AZ, CA, and TX. Most will start to crack at the seam in the elbow about 6-8 inches from the filler cap. I believe the part new costs around $120 for OEM.

Just cut a piece of hose. I replaced the washer pump a while ago. There seem to be some space at the tank exit.

Pardon my infrequent attention to this board. Life has been.... Interesting. Anyone with roommates will know exactly what I'm talking about.

The part that was leaking is the elbow shaped piece. I meant to circle it but I'm on my phone at the moment. I'll see what I can do later and update the image if it's not immediately clear.

I appreciate the help y'all give and I'm looking forward to being able to help others when I finally have the know how.

As an additional note, I did replace my reservoir. It wasn't what I'd call cheap but it wasn't break the bank expensive either. I replaced the cap and filter basket too. Probably not totally necessary but it was only a few bucks more and the whole neck to mine was gone.

The piece I'm talking about is separate from the pump and the connecting hoses. Look for a 90 degree angle.

I just replaced the reservoir on mine due to the typical cracks on the neck. There are 2 tanks, standard and "cold weather". Mine was the larger "cold weather", $80 from Camelback Toyota.
There is a "shield" for the "cold weather" tank, it keeps rocks thrown off the tire from battering the larger tank.

OP in your pic the pump is nearly upside down. There is a little "nub" on the top of the pump (bottom in your pic) that fits into a slot on the tank. If you are talking about the 180 deg molded rubber hose directly off the pump, there should be little wire spring clamps on each end. If you are talking about the little plastic 90 deg elbow about 3" past the pump or the rubber 180 itself you will just have to improvise with vacuum hose as I do not see these parts sold separately or at all for that matter. Make sure the leak is not from the pump/tank grommet or the low level sensor/tank grommet.

It seems to be the elbow. I inverted it to be the way it is now and it seems to be working without a leak.

I'll reorient the pump to be upside right. I'm doing my best without much of a manual or anything to go by. If I change it to being "up," the hose will come out facing the back of the truck. Right?

I think the tank I have is a the larger one as it sits in the well and nearly fills it. I can see (and imagine) why it might be helpful to have a cover. It doesn't currently have a cover. I'm not doing anything aggressive with the truck so I can probably skip it for now.

Thanks for your time and replies. I really appreciate the help here.

Here is a shot of how things are arranged on mine. The clip on the bottom of the harness plug fits into a hole on the shield. A 90deg plastic elbow, about 3/4"x3/4" goes into the end of the hose.
I noticed the pump nipple that goes into the tank had a very sharp "barb". It could easily cut the grommet when removed.

The shield fits like a second skin to the tank.

So based on what you've told me here my leak is no longer an issue. Apparently the pump being upside down was the issue. This works just spiffy now. Thanks again for your help and advice!!

My reservoir was brand new (the old was one broken at the neck as is common) so I knew for sure it wasn't the reservoir. Check the orientation of your pump as that might be the issue.

    bump

I took my reservoir out today and discovered that the cracks in my reservoir fill neck were NOT the source of my leak. The rubber elbow that mates the pump to the hose is quite leaky, like OP's.

I will either gob it up with a bogger of silicon gasket stuff or JB weld, or I will replace it with a bit of hose. I am going to patch the neck up anyways while I have it out so maybe I'll check out bits of hose and elbows at home depot. I also need tape, sandpaper, paracord, hose clamps... I'll be there for an hour and a half.

You know that feeling when it's already lunch time and all you did today was fuss over one little project and you know you are going to pretty much fiddle with it until dinner time?

    I love that feeling.

just FYI if anyone has issues with the rubber grommet in the tank leaking around the pump just pop it out and roll it around in your hands a bit then let it sit in the sun for about 30 minutes. this lets it reshape itself and seal tight again. no need to ever replace the grommet unless its cracked.

also it is very easy to relocate the washer reservoir and pump inside the engine bay next to the windshield wiper motor screwed right into the fender.

this is the replacement unit without the low fluid sensor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371059820483?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

and this is the replacement unit with the low fluid level sensor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Windshield-...&fits=Make:Toyota&hash=item485b790d4a&vxp=mtr

comes with a ne pump already installed plus some new hose and the stock wiring plugs right in and you never need to change it again
