DIY McMaster-Carr D-Ring Mod for 2nd Gen Toyota Tacoma

My first mod on my '08 Toyota Tacoma. Had to because can't always rely on the track hoops for tie downs.

I like the official Toyota tie-downs for their additional features, but by using the McMaster-Carr ones I saved ~$20 (Bought 4 @ $1.05/ea w/ $7.62 S&H to San Diego). The McMaster-Carr's are also rated at 500-lbs each.

You do have to drill out the standard hole with a 5/8" metal drill bit to get the bed liner bolt to pass through. Use some cutting oil (my bicycle chain lube worked in a pinch) as you will prematurely dull your bit without it.

And grinding down the rings that hold the washer in place. I used a dremel with a metal grind stone.

Check out Neubs' post on his DIY D-rings to see a great walkthrough of the steps.

After seeing the rust formation on my bolts for the front of the bed, I decided to pull up all the liner bolts to wire brush them. Then I applied anti-seize and some white lithium grease to help slow any oxidization. Even if you aren't going to be installing d-rings, it's a good idea to periodically pull them up and relube.

I have no idea... just as dumbfounded as you... Went to that link, ordered four of them... Haven't confirmed with my CC as to the final charge, but the email invoice only showed 4 x $1.05 = $4.20. Not looking the gift horse in the mouth on this one. ;)

    UPDATE:

Scratch that... They just have an invoice system as basic as their website... Final charge was $11.82. :p

Nice alternative! I did the mod using the dodge oem d rings, but this would be even cheaper.

yeah i was gonna say they usually give you a price without shipping and find the cheapest shipping option for you. either way 11.82 for 4 d rings is damn good.
