Your smog pump noise is a different noise but I know for sure that noise is normal design

Well its not really the ticking that concerns me as much as that pulsing sound in the first video I posted with the green tacoma about 60% through the video you'll hear it real good and loud

Yeah, smog pump sounds cool. Kicks in after ignition and again when shutting off. There are several threads on here about the noise; one funny one by a guy who says he's embarrassed in the Wal Mart parking lot.

Sounds similar to a Nubby 4-wheeler tire rubbing a fender? I have that too. I'm not worried. I figure if it was something lemon-y, I'd get a CEL on the dash.

Mine does something like that too. sort of a high pitched sound? My older toyota was mostly loud fan noises at startup and this is has both that and this ticking sound. goes away quickly after startup. the truck drives excellent though so I'm not worried but it is a curious little noise.

For whatever it's worth I'm gonna leave it overnight this Friday at toyota then let them hear it Saturday morning . After they say it's normal I guess it's time to document the visit and risk it and drive it 2 more years while it still has warranty or just trade it on something else .

I recommend that you are present when they start it up and record it if possible. I say this because the first time I left it there for them to start up the next day, they told me they didn't hear anything, so I left it for another day and was present that day, I also recorded the start up. Funny thing is they hear it and claimed it didn't do it the day before (Had the truck about 6 months at the time, it did it every single day, so I knew they were either deaf or lying, most likely lying). Recording could also help (worked for me) if you need to do some pushing. The most important thing is that you get everything documented, if they say its normal, then request that to be included in the service report and a explanation of the noise, politely (they say its normal, therefore they should know what it is then, therefore ask them to include that in the service report); you lie often, you are bound to get tangled up in your lies eventually, so its nice to have it documented when you need to refresh their memory.

Yeah I actually thought about recording it while we all listen to it I hope they don't take it the wrong way but whatever and I'm gonna lock it up the night before and not leave any keys so to make sure that it's cold when I get there also I'm gonna ask for a print out of the visit when I go I'm guessing it will just say customer complained of noise but we found it to sound normal . But I guess that will still be proof that I had a concern if anything ever does go south .
