Intake for improved throttle response

Hey Guys,

Im looking for an intake to add some throttle response. Im not looking for power, MPG's, etc because i know thats ridiculous to ask for out of a CAI. I just want the sound and throttle response. what are the best intakes or drop in filters. I know the stock one on my 09 v6 4x4 is a Cold Air Intake but what are my options for either replacing the stock intake or using a different drop in filter? Also, did any of you take out the secondary filter or leave it in?

AFE is your best bet from what I've read. K&N ones when over oiled can cause the MAF to read incorrectly as the oil will get on the sensors.

As for actual throttle response, if you have no supporting mods with it, it won't really do jack. The stock intake is already a CAI. Chris4x4 did a dyno test with the charcoal filter (secondary) in and removed, showed no dyno improvement.

Myself, I just have a AFE Pro Dry drop in, works well enough for me (more than anything I just like the washable aspect). I do have a URD MAF tuner though, which actually would make a CAI such as the AFE Pro Dry realize some potential from the greater surface area and flow rate. Also, things such as eliminated cats, DT headers, exhaust, ect.... will help throttle response in the long run but just the intake alone won't do much other than make a little noise... honestly it doesn't justify the price tag.

 

im definitely planning on adding more to it. Basically this is the first of the three (atleast) Intake, MAF sensor, exhaust. Im wondering which one would be the best fo that combo. I was leaning towards the AFE also. thanks for the input tho.

I haven't. Even if its a 1st gen I'm still curious.. (like to keep up to date with this stuff)

Also.. after an intake, I'm going to get an exhaust (leaning towards Aero Turbine) and then the URD MAF. Between those three things I should see an increase in response right? I had an intake and exhaust on my 06 and could tell the difference.. atleast I thought so.

So should i replace the intake or keep it and through in a drop in filter?

Haha.. I knew it was a matter of time Whippersnapper.. I've read all the threads. I'm not looking for a drag truck. Just coming from my 06 to my 09 I can tell there is a difference with the throttle response. Now I'm not sure if that is due to the intake and exhaust I had on my 06 or not, but just looking for any thoughts on what it could be.

 

Running auto or 6 spd? Also was your 06 a prerunner or 4x4?

 

Both were auto v6 4x4s. I was thinking that too.. that I just told myself it was quicker.. but I swear my 06 was. So i was just seeing what it MIGHT be if anything.

Yup.. different tread. Bfg all terrains on the 06 and nitto grapplers on now. I'm really thinking its just the exhaust and maybe an intake. OR... I'm crazy

What's the tire weight diffrence? Also lift/size/ect? That can make a huge impact on such things as well.

 

I'm sure there is a difference.. but it can't be that much. both were running 32"s. The rest I'm not and can't really remember.
