PIAA 510 to stock wiring with HID conversion?

    I am looking at ordering a set of PIAA 510 fog/driving lights and I was going to do the HID coversion on them as soon as I got them in. My question is... is there any way to use a H10 (stock fog light bulb) when I convert the PIAA's over to HID's? I am wanting to utilize the stock wiring and switch that my truck is already equiped with. I read somewhere that the PIAA's come with a H3.

    First, you do realize that the HID conversion is not 'plug and play' for the PIAA 510's, right? It requires you to cut a hole in the housing in order to fit the HID bulb.

    Secondly, the bulb that the PIAA's use is irrelevant since they use their quick connectors anyways. Regardless of what you do, you'll have to rig something up to make them plug into the stock wiring. Also, the stock PIAA bulbs are 55W/ea so your stock wiring might not be sufficient and you could end up blowing the fog light fuse. If that's the case, you'll need to use a relay and a custom wiring solution.

    If you go HID, you can get a kit that was made to plug into an H10 plug, then it would be plug and play into your stock wiring so long as you're using a 35W HID kit. If you try a 55W or higher kit, the stock wiring will not support it and you'll have to install a relay and custom wire it.

    I found a thread on how to do the HID conversion for the PIAA 510's and plan to follow it step by step. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/lighting/165161-piaa-510-hid-conversion.html I just didn't see what type of HID conversion kit he used.

    Before I installed my new bumper, I have been using 35W HID's in the stock driving lights and have had no issues with fuses or anything of that nature. What I am going to try is to use the same bulbs when I convert the PIAA's over.

    He said he used a DDM Tuning 35W kit and the bulb color he chose was 3000K (so mostly yellow light).

    Stock wiring will support a 35W HID kit but I'm pretty confident in saying the stock fuse is not big enough for a 55W HID kit. A 55W halogen kit is right on the cusp of where it works for some and not others. 55W halogens will draw 9.1A on their own and the stock wiring uses a 10A fuse. 55W HID kits have a large initial draw when they are cycled on so the 10A fuse wouldn't handle the initial jump.

    Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely stay with a 35W kit as I hardly ever use my fogs anyways since I got my retrofits.

    Run a set of new wires ..... Use the stock fog wires as a trigger for the relay.. Boom ur done.

    No different than how I ran 2 light forces at 100watts each, and 2 kragen hids using my high beam wire as a trigger.

    for the trigger?
    I used the high beam wire.

    otherwise, the power feed comes from the battery through the relay. I didnt use stock wiring to power either set of lights

    Just a bunch of old crap
    I also use my high beam for the trigger of my 2 LightForce Genesis. I just stuck the trigger wire right into the relay socket, and done. No need to splice.
