NE Camping& Kayaking trip (PA/NY)

All are welcome. This will not be a 4x4 event. This is mainly a fishing/camping/kayaking social event.

Last year when we did this I didn't know we were 15 miles from a place I have camped at many times over the past 10 years until I saw the signs for it.

http://www.keenlake.com/

This campground has a full service general store (they sell beer)

The primitive campsites I stay at have pit toilets, no electric, and no showers. I know some women cringe at the sound of camping with no amenities so I can say first hand they have very clean showers and bathrooms. If you hop in your truck or take a 2 minute bike ride you can be at the main campground that has the store/showers/bathrooms/and pool.

We will be camping lakeside so you can swim and kayak from your site, but we plan on making day trips to NY (15-20 miles away) to kayak the Delaware river.

At this point this is just a feeler and nothing is set in stone so please let me know what you think. I spoke to some local TW members a few weeks ago and they confirmed this is one of the best campgrounds around. It is a private campground so while it is more expensive then a state run camp no one will get hassled by the PA/NY Rangers for drinking on state property which in my mind is worth a couple extra bucks.

The primitive camp sites are NOT open during this time. In the past I was able to procure them via reservation and a little sweet talking. The campground keeps good records of people who keep their sites clean and if anyone caused any issues. Since over 10 years we have always treated them great they have opened the camp up to us during their off season on numerous occasions. This means we will have the entire side of the campground to ourselves. The main buildings will be open - they just open the tent/primitive side later in the season.

My schedule is very flexible, but I would like to make sure the core group from last year is able to attend this years trip. Some of them have schedules that are hard to change without long notice so this is why the thread is so far in advance.

I asked some of last years attendees what dates are good with them and this is what we are thinking right now 4/20 - 4/24.

Please note that dates may change according to their availability.

If you are interested please let me know. If these dates aren't good for you or are good let me know.

Oh I won't be swimming for fun. Swimming is reserved for when you lose at kayak jousting.

If I wasn't sick I would of done the polar plunge at the AC shore last weekend with my friends.

Probably not but doesn't hurt to bring it if you have one.

I'll be wearing board shorts and my pfd (personal flotation device)(life vest), and I'll have a dry bag with long underwear (not cotton! Synthetics like under armor are good, or wool is good too), and a fleece jacket, and rain jacket/pants.

When kayaking in cold water you need to be prepared for getting wet, even if you don't want to get wet. Either wear something that will keep you warm in the water, or bring clothes with you that will warm you up if you get wet.
