I Need A Cold Air Intake, Which One?

Hey guys, i am wanting a cold air intake for my 2006 tacoma 4.0L engine. i am looking at a K&N 77 series intake, the volant CAI with the ram air scoop, and the Toyota TRD CAI... does anyone have any of these? do you like them? is there a significant horsepower, MPG or Sound gain? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

 

Others will tell you the same thing. The truck already has one. Horsepower gain? No. MPG gain? No. Sound gain? Yes.

Do a search. It's been discussed in great lengths.

 

Save your money, junk and does nothing. Just looks good when you open the hood, so unless you plan on driving around with the hood open. Don't bother

 

Sure I will catch flak but I like my afe stage2 with dry pro filter...no over oiling and screwing up maf....and I do like the sound...to each their own

You live dangerously my friend. They facts have been shown; tested and retested; very similar across many different vehicles across the country. All showing a similar range of improvement.

The K&N brand is open in the engine bay. The down side to that is that at idle, your IAT'S will become very high. Respective to ambient temps. The closed box ones, isolate from the engine bay heat better, and will keep them lower during the whole range of vehicle operation.

The URD TCAI draws air from in front of the radiator. It will, in most scenarios, have the coolest IAT'S. However, it is the most open to the elements and needs a shield, which is a separate purchase. On the 1GR engine, aftermarket intakes range from about 8-15 hp gain.

Did you know adding a powered by Toyota sticker gives you 50hp and +10mpg!

If you pour redbull into your gas tank, your truck will eventually fly, trust me i heard about it on the internet.

 

I just went out and added a powered by Honda sticker to my Tacoma. I can't keep traction to the tires now!

I have a 1st Gen TRD CAI, no issues and I like it. Never checked for HP gains or MPG's because I own a truck and could care less what the MPG's are. However I noticed a bit more throttle response and a nice sound that drops the panties of women and explodes the bras right off their chests when I drive by.

Just the CAI or in conjunction with an exhaust mod? Engines are big air pumps, so if you bring in more air, you have to add a way to push it back out. Significant gains come from a balanced approach in regards to intake/exhaust mods. This is where a good tuner company can help. Your exhaust may already be capable of moving more air.
