Smile Valentine One Radar Locator

I just received my new V1, and I'm uber-impressed! This is my second V1. My first was purchased used off eBay, and worked perfectly (I sold it approximately two years ago, and have regretted it since).

I've owned a Whistler (garbage), Escort Passport 8500 x50, Escort Solo S2, and V1. IMO, V1 trumps them all. The directional indicators are helpful, and once I experienced detection with the indicators, all other detectors seemed inferior. Thus, the "Radar Locator" description (as opposed to "Radar Detector") of the V1.

"All-Bogeys" and "Advanced Logic"|"Logic" modes are comparable to Highway and City, respectively, of other detectors. However, again IMO, the sensitivity, detection, and information display of the V1 are more intuitive and superior to other detectors (for example, the "Junk" or "J" readout indicating that the V1 has determined that the incoming signal is just that, junk, and not worth worrying about). Further, the instruction manual and included accessories are more comprehensive, easily understood, and useful than those included with the other detectors that I've owned.

After proofreading this post, I think that I may sound like the V1 cheerleader. Nonetheless, I think that the V1 is well worth the price of ownership (approx. $400), considering the one year warranty as well as the aforementioned pluses. Just my 2 cents.

Consider the V1...IMO, money well spent.

I was thinking bout getting one the other day...thanks for the review! got solid reviews on amazon as well. I've been nailed by speedtraps before and it sucks...especially when you're not much over the posted limited.

It is probably the best detector out, but most the speed traps these days are utilizing laser and unfortunately by the time the V1 or any other detector picks up the signal it is too late. I had one hardwired in my V, but I let it go with the car when I sold it.

Oh, you had a V1 because you sped...I have a V1 to locate radar. Yeah, it's my understanding that you're pretty much screwed with laser. But as of yet, I've never been shot with laser (that I'm aware of). Everything around here is Ka. I had a 4 hour drive (each way; 8 hours total) over the weekend, and spotted 4 cruisers because of the V1...I f'ing love this thing!

Been having a V1 for about 8 yrs now. On flat terrain the range is about 2.5 miles. It is simply the best. All the rest are junk. It has saved me and paid for itself numerous times.

Highly recommended

Does anyone know the plug pinouts for the dimming mirror on a 2010 Tacoma DblCab 4x4 to wire in my V1. All I need to know is the 12v+ and Gnd. I have a voltmeter, but can't find 'em and the service manuals aren't out for the 2010 yet, that I can find.

Aside from active laser jamming, which is illegal in many states, you could always "Veil" your headlights, taillights if they are clear, and plates. I'd prefer laser jamming for the alert and then quickly turn it off, but if you are caught you are most likely messed up anyway. I've been zapped several times and Veil got me through all the way to the laser source.

I have a V1 and love it. Thankful for the logic modes.

I disagree with your saying jamming laser is illegal in some states. All though it has been seven years since I did my homework. Laser is regulated by the FDA. Yes Food and Drug Administration. Radar is regulated by the FCC. It is illegal to jam or own radar jamming equipment. It can be done. But I promise you if you buy a radar jammer it does not work. If and that's a big IF have one that truely does jam radar some men in suits from the Federal goverment will pay you a visit.

Please post your source of jamming laser as illegal.

Thanks!

You have no known laws in Texas for jamming laser at this time.

It's all good. I'm just glad you didn't run out and get zapped with a laser jammer. The new laser guns actually throw codes at the officer shooting laser and tell him you're being jammed, although it takes a few seconds for the gun to register it as a jam. However, there are people who will use the jammer for the alert and quick jam to get their speed down and then immediately turn the jammer off. But, if you have a vet. cop who knows what to look for, your messed anyway.

Just some FYI for everyone...

I was told many years ago that if a cop sees you flash your lights to warn other drivers about them like when they have a speed trap, that the cop can ticket you for "interfearing with police" or "interfearing with police dude"...some sort of B.S. like that.

I don't know if cops actually tryed that or not BUT they can't!!!

Today is March of 2009, and about six months ago or so was a court case, ( I think here in Ohio). A cop was told off and given the middle finger by someone who was pulled over for a traffic stop. I don't know if the guy got ticketed for that or arrested, but it does not matter...the guy suit the police dept over the issue and won.

The judge's decision was this... that all governments (fed, state, county, and city) are open to critosims (god my spelling sucks) and a citizen is protected under the US constitution for free speach verbal or otherwise; AND that police ARE agents of the government, and therefor, "are" the government.

What that means is a cop "is" the government/represents the government just the same as a congressman, and therefor are subject to any and all critosism (non threatening), and that "we the people" are protected from prosectution under that provision, more so, because it is critosism agaist the government.

So, the argument is this...if I flash my lights to warn people of a speed trap (AND I DO ALL THE TIME!!!) that is non verbal speach (warning someone who has not commited a crime yet, not to do it!) against the cop (also known as the government).

Flashing your lights IS speach, it is a form of comunitation. Just ask the Navy, they use flashing lights with code to communitate with ships next to them when they need radio silence! So my head light are too.

Just some info for everyone who may be scared to warn people. And don't let the cops scare you!!!

That would be for the people speeding. If I flash my lights, warning people, I would not be the one breaking the law. :-)
