Others were here before me, so you got the answer. The photos are all shown on page 1 of this thread Johnny... I fit my big old drill in the cubby just fine.

Just ordered the 2 breather pieces online and will buy the hose/clamps this week. Can't wait to do this mod this weekend!

Anyone have a link for this 3/8" 5/8" pressure tube? I went by HomeDepot and they didn't have anything near that size. Searching online with Lowes didn't turn anything up either.

who did you order from? going to the dealer gave me a headache, he was confused why I wanted to do the mod in the first place "it's so well sealed there's no way water could get in", and he kept telling me the parts that I wanted wouldn't work, then he told me he didn't have the union in stock so I promptly walked out. I tried TRDparts4U and looking up the numbers did yield anything. Help a sister out? Thx

THANK YOU!! I didn't think Camelback was still a vendor since in the vendor section they hadn't posted anything recently. Thank you Door Ding, I hope to NEVER go back to the dealer, can't STAND THEM!!

Thanks Boogie, I ended up searching google and came across toyotapart.com which gave me a better shipping price. Camelback was going to charge me almost 9 dollars for those two tiny parts...the parts came out to be 9 dollars themselves!

You are most welcome. I HATE when places overcharge for shipping like that.

Great write up. Did exactly the same and only took 30mins (less if I could find my damn tools!). Nice tip on flipping the spare...

I did this rear diff breather mod before fully understanding that the replacement breather is two-way/always open. As a result, my mechanic attached the replacement breather to the underbody of the vehicle just above the rear diff.

Although this is almost tire height and unlikely to be submerged when crossing shallow rivers, I am very concerned about clogging and diff oil contamination from dust, grime, salt, etc.

Shall I relocate the breather to a cleaner location, such as the fuel bay? (This is on a 4Runner, so no truck bed option.)

    Gracias de antemano.

You did the mod, but where did you put the breather? Your mechanic removed the tube and put in on the diff, where the original one way vent was? Just one time in a deep puddle (18" +) and your mechanic screwed you big time if you have a real breather that low!
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is all clearly explained why, what and where, on the first page.

The front diff has the two way breather, up high. We are just giving the (more important) rear diff the SAME.

When I changed the front diff oil, (after 3.5 years and 40,000 miles) it was crystal clean and looked brand new. So the breather is not adding dirt to it, nor would it the rear diff.

Let me see if I can find it. There is a thread on (i think) that shows someone relocating it up behind the tail lights.
