just as a follow up to my post #657

i did my second oil change the other night, this time i poured about 99% of the M1 jug thats 5.28 quarts (5 liters) in, and its been reading perfect on the dipstick.

the second oil change was much smoother this time, was done in under and hour and that included driving to buy the oil :)

    much thanks to this forum.

that is water condensation emulsified with oil. yes looks nasty. just take some spray carb cleaner and blast it into your catch pan. do not squirt it while looking at it or it will come right back in your eyes!

actually, what is nice, is that because of the long filler neck design and the underside of the cap, this is THE spot that forms. not somewhere else in your engine that would never be cleaned and removed.

So I was reading somewhere on here that the 2.7 engine uses 0w20 is that the case or would I be better off using 5w30 as I've been reading through this forum? also my local toyota dealer has an offer for $35 DIY oil change that comes with 5qts toyota synthetic, toyota oil filter, and teflon toyota drain plug gasket. Im wondering if this is a good route to go since im doing my first oil change on my truck. I have all the other necessary tools ready to go.

Has anyone tried putting a remote filter housing on the block and a dual filter set up mounted to the inner fenderwell? I've thought about that everytime I take the filter off. Just asking. If you did do a set up like this, what did you do, and what parts did you use. Thanks for your help.

Getting ready to head out and find some 5w30 M1 and tubing to do my first oil change.
Had the first few changes done at the dealer but I really don't like wasting the time for a free change/
Need to plan a week out and then wait for 2-3 hrs or more to get it done....
What is free about that, my time is worth something.
Have the factory filters, so I should be set.
Very good info in this thread.

Oh boy, so I changed my oil today for the first time on my 2012 taco. It was the 30k maintenance. I switch from conventional to synthetic. When I was putting the new oil in I used a big 5qt jug of Mobil 1 then proceeded to open the 1qt bottle and I just sat there while I pour the whole qt in then thought S**T! I don't know if this is advisable but I got under the truck cracked the plug and left a half qt drain out then screwed it back in. Torqued it 3 lb more and no leaks. I need to quick day dreaming.

Thank you Chris 4x4! Subbed and I will definitely be doing this next time. I can admit that I've never done an oil change myself yet...first time for everything!
