T-Harness Blowing Fuses

I want to post this before I go and buy a new harness to see if anyone has some advice/previous experience with this: I have a Curt T-Harness for my 06 taco that I installed myself and worked very well when I first got it. When installing it I couldn't find a good spot for the grounding wire (the instructions were not helpful for this) and so I bolted it into one of the existing holes inside the quarter panel even though I knew this was probably wrong. Then, after it rained a few times, several fuses blew which caused my brake/dash lights to act up. I replaced the fuses and pulled out the harness because it was the only electrical mod I had done to the truck and really was the only explanation for the blown fuses especially knowing that I most likely had an improper ground. Everything has worked fine since, but now I am moving and need to hook up a trailer once again.

Should I try wiring up the old harness with a proper ground? If not, does anyone know where I could get a cheap yet reliable t-harness (AutoAnything.com has Curt for $53 shipped)? Also, where can I properly ground the thing? Thanks!

 

i have the same problem.. i also used a spare bolt inside the fender behind the tail light..

when i hit my brakes, my parking lamps come on... when i use the left turn signal, my parking lamps flash..

 

Bad ground.

 

If your blowing fuses not likely a bad ground, you've got a short somewhere, bad grounds end continuity (completing circuits) & bad grounds can spark (at the point of contact or lack-thereof) but don't blow fuses, break out the multi meter & start reverse hopscotching (last point of power) tracing shit out, sounds like your plug is possibly your issue.....

 

i just put mine in last night haven't had any issues today,but i buffed the black paint on the taillight inside housing to make sure i got a good ground.

 

One of the postives in the t harness is exposed and hitting the body/frame of the ground, short circuiting your system. Go through your positive wires and see which one is touching, and make sure you find a good grounding.
