Driving the Miata is probably the best bet.
Triple AAA Deluxe is always a good investment.

    Best of fortune regardless.

Can't do two vehicles anymore, regardless of how it's done. Even someone who is married can only have one vehicle shipped. I'm single.

    Okay.
Looks like even out of pocket shipping is cheaper than driving the truck.
I'd guesstimate about 600 bucks. About the same for fuel.

An unconventional approach might be to buy a flatbed or car carrier truck, taking whatever the USN deems fair move money, haul both vehicles to SanDy, then flog the flatbed or car carrier truck at in Cal.

    Just a thought.

Ultimately, it comes down to how attached you are to both or either of the vehicles.
If you are thinking of staying in for a bit, and not attached to the vehicles, flog the vehicles, invest the cash.

I used to work with a vet that served in the Air Force. During a reassignment he rented a uhaul truck, went to an outside loading dock, and put the car with his stuff in the truck. When he got to the new place he found another dock to get the car out... I don't imagine uhaul has a truck big enough for the Tacoma and Miata though.

    Yeah.
But you are using the money. Not owning the money. ;)

Srsly, I'm only tossing ideas out there.
When I was first in, we couldn't fathom why this E2 and his wife were buying and renting serious eyesores from alcoholic fisherman down in NC.
Fast forward, the dude retires as a WO4 with about ~20+mil in 'prime beachfront' property.
