So I have a 2006 DCSB TRD OR manual trans (V6) with a tow package, I am trying to tow a 1988 Toyota Pickup 3.Slow V6 4x4 with 31 10.50's on a tow dolly. I have 2 concerns, I am going from Northern Washington to Northern California so there will be some hills so weight wise will I be fine? next it is a U-Haul tow dolly will the straps fit around the tires, I would drive it to the U-Haul to try but the truck doesn't have current tags. I guess mostly I am just looking for several thumbs up. First time towing with the Tacoma...

    Thanks for any help!

    Cory Short.

Read your owner's manual, go to the Uhaul site to get the dolly weight, and do some reseach on the weight of the 88, and do the math. Don't forget to add all your baggage/passenger weight for your truck (GVWR). I5 in Southern Oregon is extremely hilly and curvy, as is the ride down from Siskiyou Summit to Redding; long, curvy, sometimes steep ride.

It's about brake capacity too, not just power.

yeah I am going into Redding. truck weight will be less than 4000 lbs plus dolly so within the 6500 capacity no electronic brakes on the dolly though.

The Uhaul tow dollys are pretty heavy but that truck shouldn't come close to tow cap. If the straps don't fit around the tires you could get some donuts that hold air from a junk yard or CL. You could take off a wheel from the 1988 truck and bring it to U-haul and check that way. Pick n pull in Arlington may have what you need as far as donuts. Easy drive all the way to Central Oregon, then just watch your speed going down the hills after that, those are steep! Get in the right lane and put the hazards on and gear down if needed when heading down hill. Going up hill shouldn't be an issue.

Towing with the 6-speed is very nice, I had an 06 like yours.

    Good luck.

You should also remove the 1988's driveshaft.
